I can possibly, cheaply gain some parts from a redtop (meaning a stock turbo, stock intercooler, and a cheap aftermarket downpipe). Is there anyway I can translate this into a minor turbo kit for my ka24e? Will any ka24e manifolds work with these sr parts? Thanks.

I thought SR parts were expensive?

yeah... used stockers wouldnt be so bad but still.... I've been trying to avoid this response since it's really not what he's looking for:

you'd be better off with a cheap T3/T4 and a log manifold. it wouldn't be much cost difference and you'd be starting oout ALOT better off.

as far as the stock SMIC I believe it will work out with minor modifications. I've seen pictures of people using it so I dont see why not. you might to do some trimming and buy some radiator hose from O'Reiley's (they have heavy duty braided 'radiator' hose in almost any diameter you can imagine)

as far as the downpipe goes you're best off using a downpipe/exhaust designed for an SR motor then making a secondary downpipe that will mate your turbo to the SR downpipe. alot easier than making an entire downpipe.

I understand what you are saying but these parts are basically free and I am not looking for a ton of power. What if I used a Jgs stage 2 manifold? Would it be possible to weld the turbo flange so these parts will work?

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

you can weld any flang on a manifold to adapt it for any turbo but I believe the JGS manifold is cast iron. Im not so sure about how welding on it would go but if you can find someone that'll do it, go for it As far as the downpipe goes you might have to do a little welding. it might be easier to remove the stock 02 housing from the turbo and make your own to connect the turbo to the downpipe. i know the location of the SR downpipe should make it pretty easy to fab up your own downpipe to adapt depending on where the manifold puts the turbo.

like everything else it can be done, you're just going to have a bit of fabricating to do.

I figured there would be a decent amount of fab work involved but it doesn't sound like a ton so I'll see how it goes. Thank you very much for your help.

good luck with your project! check out http://www.cheapturbo.com for flanges for the turbo/downpipe and other misc stuff you might need. I've bought a flange from them for my wastegate and it is top quality for the price they charged.

post up pics when you're done
