well, according to the referee, the only thing that holds the SR back from getting its ref sticker is the smog part. it is so difficult to get the SR to pass (hell, even the JDM honda motors). he said it can be done, but good luck making it pass.
Yay for misinformation. SRs pass smog just fine. Back in the day when my friend had his car just swapped his car passed smog with no cat. An SR will pass smog just fine with a cat and if it's running right.
What hold the SR from becoming legal is the fact that the SR20DET never came stateside. The reason B16s and B18s can be made BAR legal is because the B16 came in the USDM Civic Si (EM chassis) and the B18 came in the GSR and ITR (DC chassis). It's just a matter of swapping the USDM emissions parts into the JDM motors and bam, BAR legal motor. How do I know this? I have two friends rocking BAR legal GSR and ITR motors in thier EG and EK civic hatches.

Negatory. The CA18DET never came to the states so the motor alone is illegal. It can pass the sniffer though. Any motor can be made to pass the sniffer. What kills with smog here in California is ****ing visual inspection.
