My car-95 with a black top sr, basic mods, greddy fmic, etc etc, some custom aluminum radiator and a HIGE 15" FAL electric fan. WHen I first had the car with the swap, I had some small electric fan on it and it overheated, so I threw on two 10 inch fans and it still overheated, then I threw on the stock clutch fan and it STILL overheated, the coolant was burped correctly and had no air pockets that I know of, I also tried straight water with no coolant. When it still read H, I went to take the Thermostat housing off to replace the thermostat, but there was no thermostat to be changed SO I just put the new one on and tried that...didn't do anything. Do you guys have any idea what else it can be? waterpump not pumping? gauge reading wrong on cluster? keep in mind, the gauge reached H and sometimes past H but never reached it's bioling point and never overflowed. Also, the lower radiator hose isn't as hot as the top one, so I'm guessing it isn't getting any flow. PLEASE HELP

*before I take off the water pump to check it...do they use gaskets or RTV?

okey dokey, I think I can answer this one for you. My friend has a 91 240 with a blacktop SR in it and his stock gauge always reads almost at the maximum level however, the motor is not excessively hot and the water isn't at the boiling point, exactly like you described. He had some mechanic guy put in some type of thermometer thingy and it read that it was running at like 165* even though it said it was near meltdown. We think the gauge is just funktarded...

OR it could be your water pump, but usually they will "cry" when they break.

Yup...I own a 96 w' 180sx blacktop.....

The temp gauge will always read high due to a diferent resistor in gauge than 13 and 180sx's.

When car reads hot, take a laser temp reading gauge and check inlet and outlet....outlet at motor should be aruon 200-210.

I am gonna put an aftermarket gauge on this summer.

Which sensor are you using? A lot of us had this issue the first time thru. What ecu and harness are you using?
