Hey folks (if yall ever make it into the Z forums)Is putting a SR20DET into a 300ZX nonturbo a fairly simple swap? It's got to be easier than putting a VG into a 240 (and Ive heard of that).Ive read a lot about how the Z's engine bay is kinda small, especially with two turbos. No place for a newbie mechanic. Also it's damn tough to find a decent twin turbo at a decent price. So I was thinking, how would an SR do in the Z. I know it's kinda heavy (3300 lbs?), so the SR might feel low on torque. What about the RB motors? Can they fit in the Z32?

Thanks a lot...

the RB has been done several times. I have never seen an SR but I am sure it could be done, I doubt it would be of much use in stoplight confrontations in that heavy Z.

Hey look, I found this button in the top right that says "SEARCH" on it. I found this:

Mad, I was wondering...In a Z31 out there do the VG30ET and RB20DET share the same mounts? RB20s are dirt cheap (relatively) here, and Z chassis can be had for 500-1000 in excellent condition. I was just wondering off hand if you knew if it would be a bolt in affair...no one has been able to answer this yet for me. Thanks.

The RB20DET was available in some models of the Z31 in Japan. So it should bolt right in with little work.

atually that is a good question. I don't know. Where are the motor mounts on the VG, even with or ahead of the strut towers?

I know it isn't too usefull, but I couldn't find any good pics...here is one of the engine bay. It looks as if the mounts will be even with, or behind the strut towers.

Finding any usefull pictures is a b****.

I would suspect that the RB and VG zs would use the same crossmember, it's just cost effective.

If you want a TT Z32, just buy the TT. It will cost as much or more to put a different motor in there, and the VG has as much (or more in the case of the SR and RB20) potential as any of them for high HP.

There was reasons behind this discussion....

First of all, the RB fits into the Z31, not Z32 (with ease). And the RB has more potential than the VG30E, or even ET for that matter.

Second of all, the reason that SR was swapped into a Z32 was not for power. It was for weight transfer.

I meant to say VG30DETT, not just VG, and I was replying to the original post.
