Im on my way of saving up for a SR , my question is do you think the money you put in was worth it? Im getting the swap done for 3500 installed and that's the best price i've heard. I would like to have it done myself but dont really know have that much experience on swapping motors. Thanks for your replies and opinions....

i agree.....im EXTREAMLY satisfied... i mean i went from about 120 rwhp to 240rwhp so how could u be disapointed. But, as it has been said b4, i wish i did an rb20 or maybe even an rb25. it would be nice to have some more low end...

I feel the same way after having the SR for close to a year now...should have gone RB26. Even if I had went RB25, I know I'd still be kicking myself for not shelling out a couple extra grand for the grandaddy of RB motors...

getting an SR is definately worth it but for 3500 installed thats pretty cheap, does that come with some type of warranty? make sure they arent ripping you off ( bad motor set, half *** work etc. and get it in writing that they have everything they need to get it up and running so they dont call you telling you that you need to buy this and that to get it going..just a scam to steal your money)

if u want a good street car then sr is definitely the way to go, ease of install and if something goes wrong u can source 90% of the parts from usdm cars. if u want a street killer then go rb25 but if something breaks be prepared to search, order, and wait for the part. i wouldnt go rb20 over sr20 for 2 more cylinders and some extra pounds just for about the same amount of power potential.

whatever u do chose tho u will probable love it.

oh and dont leave the ka-t out of your options, there very capable motors too.

I recommend doing everything yourself if you can. Its actually not too hard as far as working on cars goes.

I'm very happy with my SR w/ 250whp and can't wait to see what 400whp+ will be like (couple months to go). I love the way my car handles and don't know how different it'd be with a heavier (dunno know by how much) engine. Its also fun to tell people when you kick their *** that you only have 4 cylinders.

I'm thinking of either buying another 240 or scrapping the KA b/c I can easily acquire an LS1 and would like to drop that in for a straight line car.

I dont know what everyone's talking about with poor low end, stock it starts making great power at 2500rpm. The SR is a very rev happy motor and has awesome throttle response so USE That. Don't expect to be able to mash the gas in 4th at 35mph and be thrown back.

p.s. I love love love my blacktop

edit: ive also got a 2.5" exhaust (i dont want to make over 300whp) so maybe that has a little to do with my opinion of fair low end but i doubt it.

From my experiances I would say RB>KAT>SR

Dont get me wrong though I currently have the SR in my car and its fun. It still wins me races and is fun to drive but even 300whp gets old fast.

I've done both the lower motors and I wish I went RB aswell.

Me too, Im just getting sick of wrenching on this car. If I can make enough ends to get my next car without having to sell this I will end up putting in a rb26 for sure. Backed up with twin gt28's for a nice responsive screamer, it'll be a sweet motor.

they're offering 3500 installed with a 30-day warranty on anything. someone here posted rndfactory.com but their site isnt working properly so I cant really see what they have to offer. looks to me an sr is a good way to start off but most of you guys are still leaning towards an rb. we'll see what other opinions we get...thanks all of you for your replies by the way

I like my SR pretty well. Had it for over 2 years now. I wished I had gotten an RB for a good while but when i look now at the higher initial cost plus more install cost and what it takes to make say 400whp out of a rb25 I think I can do it cheaper with an SR. It might not have the torque of an RB but that's fine with me. Although RB parts might be getting a little more prevelent, the SR owns for tons of oem and aftermarket support in the US.

To me it is either SR or RB26.

hhmmmm i geuss i was pretty close to say what i did, i think if i "built" a 240 i'd go big right away... personally. but hell go ahead and put a SR in it im sure you will be able to sell it for more then you have in it or come out even and you could do something else!

Ok for ALL OF THOSE that believe they shoulda ogne rb25 or rb20.... IF YOU AINT GOING rb26dett then it is not worth it. I AM SOMEONE who DOWNGRADED from an RB20 to my SR20. I ran 14.1 at 102.1mph with the rb20 at 14 psi boost. I ran that same 14.1 at 102.2mph with my sr20 at 7psi of boost. Nothing beats the SR it is incredible. The straight 6 sound is great but performance wise, cheaper upgrades, more aftermarket support... SR ALL THE WAY!

I agree 100% on the being easier to find parts for the sr engines......I find alot of them local here.....if I cant get something s14marksr who is a few miles away is always up to help me and the other local sr powered people in this area to get something......I guess with the SR engines because its more widespread its more like being in a family from my experience.

Now no knocking the RB's although.....heck I was thinking of going with the Rb20(damn and that right around $1,400 for a good motorset lol)........but its definantly a good alternative if your open mined to be different, skilled at installs and Jeese they sure do sound sweet to the ears

I guess it has been about two and half years for me with my SR20. To me its still probably the best all around turbo motor for the 240sx, solid performance, relatively easy installation, gigantic support for a motor never released in the US, weight savings and reliability. Plus it will get up to around 33mpg on the highway typically (in my experience).

As a college student, the last thing I could possibly imagine right now is swapping in another, more expensive turbo motor. If I could have all my money back and have a choice of a new swap project, I'd either do another SR swap or maybe an NA V6.
