was wondering how much more hp would you get from installing a new pulley, lightweight of course. just wondering because in the new modifided mag it has a article on saving weight at the flywheel and the pulley. they said at least 30hp to the wheels.

u ain't gonna get no 30 horses to the wheel with the sr, i don't even know if thats a realistic gain with any motor.

althought i h8 ur dsm may disagree, i think a lightened flywheel is a good idea in terms of performance though.

is it a good idea to upgrade or more just a waste of money. i mean will you be able to tell a difference in performance even if you don't get much hp gain from it.

I think the advantage of a new flywheel is so that you could use a more aggressive disk (since a stock flywheel with something like a 6 puck clutch could result in damage).

Pulleys wont do anything. They are already light (have you picked one up lately?). You would get more actual power from just removing the PS and AC, that way there are two fewer pulleys running off the crank.

You don't get any HP from a lightweight flywheel. You are reducing the inertia of your drivetrain, allowing it to rev up faster.

I thought this was basic car knowledge?

Anyway, based on the angular acceleration your drivetrain is experiencing, it will seem to offer different "gains". Think of it as allowing your engine to rev up faster in 1st gear, a little bit less in 2nd, in 3rd slightly easier and in 4th and 5th your engine is accelerating so slowly you won't get much/if any gain from a lightweight flywheel.

You aren't making more horsepower at all, but it seems to your engine as though there is much less load on the car in the lower gears.

Don't bother with a crank pulley, it's only a few HP and you'll most likely toast your main bearings in 20-30k miles due to second order vibrations.

yah the translation of what def said:DA light weight flywheel is hella fun but you don't notice the crank pully at all...

but it also reduces drivetrain power loss, this will result in more HP at the wheels (not by much). The same principle goes with carbonfiber/aluminum driveshafts.

i dont like them for drag racing, simply because i find the revs dropiing faster inbetween shifts

Basically it doesn't create hp but actually frees up hp. Only a few. On average I hear between 5-8 hp.

nevermind, didn't really read the post. I think it'll be a waste of money for some pulley's. Flywheel I think is a good investment as it will help spool your turbo faster........

Ummm I thought turbo lag was a function of turbo design (AR, turbine wheel, ect), mixture, timing, cam profile, exhaust flow, and maybe flux capacitor voltage. But a lightweight flywheel dosn't have anything to do with turbo lag. It just seems to lag less since the motor revs up quicker. Now that being sed you will not gain any crank HP from a flywheel, but you will gain RWHP because the motor is loosing less HP from the crank to the wheels from the effort it would be using to spin that extra 10lbs up to speed.

But I'm sure I'm wrong, I was told today that I'm very uneducated by a 50 year old woman who thinks she knows all and that her V8 powered Ford Expedition would kick my nancy ***...... yay

hey man, those V8 ford SUV's are fast, i saw one going 80mph once!! before its poor aerodynamics and high center of gravity caused it to roll over in a smooth left hander on the highway. :D

Plus all the really inteligent people do drive them, why wouldnt you want to drive something that costs more, has worse gas milage, handles like poo, and has less space/seating than a standard wagon or minivan?

Honest to God I'm serious, the lady is such a libral with her head so far up her rectum that I don't think she knows what it's like in the real world. Her husband was trying to explain to her that the fact that I have a large intercooler, and a turbo might cause her to reconsider but she wouldn't isten. She's always giving me crap about how my car is a POS so I think I'm gonna have to put some money on this someday soon.

It's kinda sad that my freinds mother in law is trying to start **** with me..... ohwell, you start it I finish it :)
