I am currently starting my SR build. Its a Red Top in an S13 Hatch. I will also start a rebuild thread asap..
First Question.I have had 2 SR blocks now, that when i started disassembly, the ARP head studs had pulled the threads out of one or two cylinders in the block. I know that it is two disimilar metals and this is fairly common on many engines. Is there anyway of preventing this from happening? I know some people suggest a heliocoil. I personally know people that have heliocoiled rocker arms and it lasts forever. Im not sure i feel comfortable with the idea, especially since i plan to run a good amount of boost.
second questionThe block i just purchased didnt come with the main caps, i know that there machined surface, but i plan to do this build correctly. Balance the crank and align hone the mains. I have other main caps that are good but i wasnt sure if this was ok.. Is this block basically junk to me, or is it fine.
Last questionI currently have my oem lifters soaking in oil. Roughly 3 out of the 8 are fairly easy to compress. The other 5 are extremely hard to compress if any at all. i know these are hydraulic lifters but are they supposed to be tight are easy??
Any input is greatly appreciated.. Thank you
