As for as I know, the abbrevations don't stand for anything, but if you do take notice, there are families of particular letters. like an S family, an R family, a V family, etc. It stems from the old L series of engines I think.

i don't think nissan would go throgh the hassle of making K and S the same thing, when they could use only one letter to describe it, like for the rest of letters they use.

well I don't know... but if RB stands for Race Breed then SR HAS to mean Speed Racer and KA must be....? Killer Altima?

But the thing is, RB does not stand for "race bred", or "racing breed", or whatever else ignorant rice sites tell you. =\The first RB's were relatively weak so I doubt the naming was premeditated...

(Watch him bring up some reputable site proving me wrong... :( )

But I'm pretty sure they're just letters. ;)

Note: It's been my experience that engine codes starting with "V" are always in a V configuration. i.e.- VG, VH, VK, VQ...

SeVa you are right in the respect hat RB DOES NOT stand for Race Breed, it is just the way they classify the motor. RB standing for Race Bred/Breed is a silly internet rumor that started a whiel back(mostlikely by some illiterate, dumbass ricer)

Not all SR's are stock turbo. Look at a sentra SE-R. SR20DE. Look at a Silvia/180SX Q's. SR20DE.

the different engine codes are families that specify crap we don't care about in passing. Bore/Stroke, Deck design, block material, etc.

A lone "E" after the numbers (which actually points out EFI) USUALLY means SOHC....but what about the FJ20ET? :D

We can talk about FJs, they look good in an S13, shame no inspection garage would touch it. I ended up pulling it out:(what about the S20! In the early days Nissan didn't seem to be so nitpicky. There was the VG30ET as well, it had two cams but only one per head:pface
