What did you do on your Christmas vacation... I installed my SR!

I'd already done much of the grunt work, cleaned it up, checked the clutch, spliced the wiring harness, found an igniter etc. So over Christmas I dropped it in, hooked everything up, built 2.5" aluminum intercooler piping. Built a custom 3" exhaust. I had it running on the 29th I think, but my FMIC core hadn't shown up yet so I ran for a couple of days with a 2'5" exhaust pipe instead of the IC.

On the 3rd UPS showed up with my IC core, so the 4th and 5th were building end tanks, welding, and installing.

BTW.. it started first time!

How was the install? did you wire it yourself? Where did you get the redtop? How many days would you say it took you?

Well I did a whole lot more than an install, I did a restore and install. I spent about 40 hours just welding :-)

Yes I did the wiring myself, started witha cut harness, and a KA harness. I think it took me about 25 hours total. That was the toughest part.

The actual install took a few hours, but I have a full shop w/hoist, engine hoist etc. IC piping was another couple of days, FMIC was about a day and a half to build and install. 3" exhaust took about 1/2 a day.

I got the redtop from Osaka in Montreal, Canada (close by). It was pretty cheap becausei t had cut wiring, no ignoter, no down pipe. If I did it again I'd spend more up front and less time looking around for misc parts getting frustrated.

Then there's about 500 hours I spent looking for parts, ECCS wiring diagrams, and other info!

I never did find the right one for the SR20DET. I used the one that I found here:http://http://sr20det.nismo.org/srtech.htm as reference, but I think it's for a S14 because it wasn't quite right. And I used the '89 KA diagram from the FSM, a multimeter, and a little guess work for the rest!

Congrats dude. Did you rebuild the SR before you put it in? Custom piping and all, that's so cool, I wish I could do that. Chris

No rebuild, the compression was good and the money was tight. I just pulled the pan and straightened out the dents and painted etc.

What i meant was "how" more specifically did you do the install with a CUT harness?

1) take cut SR harness, identify each wire and which sensor it goes to.

2) take KA harness, pull off all wrap, pull every pin from ECCS plug, mark it.

3) identify all the wires that need to hook up to all the SR wires

4) cut and splice

5) figure out all the missing wires and spare wires.

6) use spare wires for missing wires if possible, add additional wires as required.

7) shorten/lengthen wires as required

8) solder/shrink/tape all joints

9) put all wires back into ECCS plug in the right spot

10) tape up harness and install

11) pray that you got it all right and that it works.

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Could I? Yes, if you want to drive up here and leave you car for a couple of weeks.

Sorry Florida's a bit too far. :)

But if you did do installs..on say a basic stock setup for an s13 into an s14 with uncut harness...how much would you charge?

I don't think there is any such thing as a basic install, each one is custom... If starting with a clip or a reputable supplier (daunt) swap kit, complete with SMIC, stock everything, downpipe, use existing exhaust, engine mounts, clutch, rad (or SR rad if clip)... blah blah blah. about $1200CDN~$800 US.
