Brief Story:

Drove my car this morning and at a red light noticed my idle was going crazy. It kept revving in between 1500-2000 rpms. My water temp was also at the absolute highest point the needle could reach driving home.

Was under the min amount of coolant needed so topped it off just under the max.

Let it idle in driveway for 20 minutes and stayed solid at 1300 rpms. Water temp was dead in the middle of hot and cold.

Drove the car in my driveway just to get the rpms up a little to see if they'd get catch high again but just dropped back down to pretty solid at 1300 rpms give or take 50rpms.

Turned the car off.

Turned the car back on and the car was crazy again. Revving high at 1400-2000 rpms again and water temp jumping through the roof again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Normally this car has absolutely 0 problems. It normally revs right around the 800rpm range.

I have also not driven this car hard with the exception of no more than a handful of pulls in the past week. When I did the few pulls it was only for no more than 10 seconds with proper warming up and cooling afterwards. All other times I've been watching my boost gauge closely to make sure I never even spool the turbo accelerating just to save gas a little bit.

This came out of nowhere this morning.

So does anyone have suggestions on what the problem could be or what I could do to fix the problem? Thanks.

(ps. searched)

Also, didnt mean to double post. I'm sowwwy!

has your coolant gone this high again after this? or just that one time? how is the idle everytime you drive the car now? 1300rpm? 800? or it jumps up and down? first i think you should figure out why your water temp went this high..check your thermostat...make sure you dont have any air bubbles in your coolant system etc..if you fix that problem and the idle is still there..then we can try to find that problem..or maybe fixing the water temp will fix the idle..it could be one problem or 2
