Whats up all.. after a few months of playing with my new toy (88 Porsche 944 turbo) I've decided to start working on my SR'd S13 again

Everythings done on the car, I'm running a FMIC with a Blitz Supersound BOV venting atmospheric.. My car won't hold idle. Whenever I start it up I have to keep "blipping" the gas or the idle will fall to around 400, then just fall and die. When I unplug the MAF the car idles fine, but as soon as I plug it back in the car dies again... I was wondering if the poor idle was caused by the atmospheric BOV or if its the MAF. I'm ready to toss out the old Blitz for something that I can recirculate if thats what will solve the problem.. also are there any BOVs that will fit the Blitz location and not cause the car to stall out? I'd definitely like to get this thing running fine for the spring. any help would be awesomethanks!

Does sound like a mafs problem.

I don't think your BOV is the problem during idle. Have you tried setting the idle up as per FSM?

Can you tighten the bov so it wont open at idle? Try that and if it still stalls, then its your maf.

yeah im pretty sure the BOV is tightened enough.. i took a look at the MAF yesterday and noticed that theres a wire loose on the connector.. Theres a good chance thats the problem.. any other suggestions?thanks

Well i've been running the Blitz SS Bov (newest generation) for quite a while without any idling problems. I'm also running a Blitz fmic setup. Consider looking more deeply into your MAFS, idle screw, and timing.

(Of course if you blow off a lot of air and immediately shift to neutral or disengage the clutch you'll stumble...........but that has nothing to do with your current problem)

A MAF's usual symptom of crapping out will be not being able to rev past 2500. However, just because you are able to doesn't mean the MAF is good. I just had this problem last week. The car would not hold idle but would rev fine. Didn't even throw a code! Swapped the MAF and oila! Borrow a friend's to eliminate it from the possibilities.

ive been messing with the throttle cable and adjusting the idle any way i can.. right now the idle is around 1100 rpm, and sometimes it jumps from like 1300 to almost 2000 (which seems to me like a vacuum leak)..

I'd be fine with a 1000 rpm idle, but heres the problem. at anything under 1000rpm the car idles somewhat violently.. the motor shakes and it sounds like its about to stall.. when I rev it it revs up fine, and when I drive the car theres plenty of power and its perfectly smooth at WOT.. but on the road if I let off the gas to cruise, (off boost) the car surges and runs very poorly.. as soon as I'm back on the gas its fine again.

i had this same problem with my Blitz SS when i had one on my mr2. What i had to do was order the stiffer spring from Blitz... it was $18 and it hold more pressure. What would happen is the spring was so soft that it would let too much air out and it would drop below idle and turn off the car.

well, I took off my BOV and noticed that when it blows off, the spring doesnt "decompress" and it was actually staying open creating a huge vacuum leak. luckily I had a spare Blitz laying around so I threw on there and it fixed the surging problem during cruising and now the car doesnt shake violently when it tries to idle below 1000rpm.

Now I have to figure out a way to route the throttle cable so it allows the throttle to close (and not stay open causing a high idle).. as soon as I can get it to close I can try setting the idle to a more comfortable 850rpm. hopefully this will work, but I'm still thinking about recirculating although I'm not sure how exactly to do that (do I have to cut up my pretty IC pipes or is there somewhere else to plug the recirc line to?
