I need ideas.

My sr came with a hicas kyb ps. pump, but my 90 is not hicas equipped. All of the lines are hooked up and it works. There are two power outs on the pump, so i took it apart and removed the impeller blades from the rear section and then had a custom bolt made to fit as to plug the second power out. It works pretty well, but every so often after fresh start, it acts up for a second, like its working intermitently. Is my belt not tight enough.Does the pump have too much pressure. After building my beautiful car and ps. lines and such, spending countless hours to make sure everything was right, and it was, I decided to put brake fluid in the ps. I did not run it like this at all, but i did have to drain the whole system. Could the fluid have ruined my ps. system. It has been drained and filled (with ps. fluid) twice.

You should be using Dexron III (aka Auto transmission fluid) so you may have ruined your PS system. On another note, why didnt you just get a non-hicas ps pump? They are cheap and easy to find.

If you lived close enough, I have an extra one, oh well. Try the local junkyards and search for a KA24DE pump. Or try emailing some of the engine suppliers like http://www.sr20store.com to see if they have extras.

hey gtune4, i have the same problem with my car. i'm just finishing up my swap, i bought new 91-94 p/s lines and a p/s tank. the lines are all bolted up and i'm just waiting for the tank, it should be another couple days or so. but i was wondering how hard is it to remove the impeller blades on the rear section of the sr hicas pump? can this be done with the p/s pump still attached to the engine and in the bay?

Are you saying one can use a '91-93 KA24DE powersteering pump on the SR engine with no modifications? My SR clip has HICAS on it, and my '92 doesn't have HICAS.

I've searched around, but haven't found a definite answer on what to do with this mismatch.

i've heard you can use a non hicas pump, but you need the bracket to go with it. so you would have to take the hicas pump and bracket off and throw on you non hicas pump and bracket. i'm not to sure about ka24de pumps workin, but doesn't hurt to give it a try. gtune4 are you out there? i'm just lookin for some feedback on what you did with your hicas pump

I believe the number of ribs on the KA pulley vs SR pulley are different. The offset is also different. Do a search I know some guy posted up pics of 3 different ones (i.e. non-hicas SR, hicas SR, non-hicus KA).

I think you do have to swap the SR hicas bracket and pump for a SR non-hicas bracket and pump. I am pretty sure that is the only way.

On the other hand a KA alt. will work if you swap the pulley and make minor modifications.

I looked the PS pumps over, and the SR one appears to be exactly like the KA one(1 inlet, one outlet). Looks like my '92 KA lines will mount right up.

The only reason I think my clip has HICAS is due to the HICAS idiot light in the cluster. Maybe it doesn't have it or something?

Yeah if the pump only has one outlet on top then it is non-HICAS.
