Hey, i need some help from you guys. I broke 2 rocker arms awhile ago and had the head fixed with new stuff. I installed the new head with a couple of friends and we did everything by the book and made sure everything was right. I got my head back from enjuku and they sent me bags with everything labeled (shims, rocker arms, and other things.) When I opened the bag i was missing my exhaust rocker arms and lashers. They overnighted me some but they werent labeled to match the shims but they told me to install them anyway. I tried starting the car and i broke 3 rocker arms on the exhaust side and the car would not start. I just want to know if the shims not matching up with the items Enjuku overnighted me was the problem. Any other info on this would be helpful too. Thanks

no that would not cause the engine to not start. now when you say you tried starting the car and broke 3 rocker arms that means you broke 3 rocker arms again after you installed the new head? the car may not have started due to the timing being off. also are you sure your rocker arms were on correctly?

Something was seriously out of whack. For you to break one maybe but not 3 at once. It sounds like the cams were out of align and the rockers tried to open them when the piston was at the top of the cylinder. You are setting up much more than just the timing when aligning a cam. The SR20 FSM is pretty good about guiding you through the procedure though so where you went astray exactly I can not say without putting my hands and eyes on the motor. You are doing much more than just setting in new timing the cams will have a alignment procedure as well but you have to be off there is no way that new ones broke like that unless made out of plastic and cheese.

did you check the timing chains position on your crank pulley?

I lined all the timing marks up with the corresponding points on the cam gears. All 3 broken rocker arms came from the exhaust side.

you need to check your timing on the crank gear.

that is also lined up correctly. I took the timing chain cover off to check it before we started the car.

i would like to see your engine without the valve cover on at tdc and see the links in between the cam gear dots and esp. the cam position. it definately did not happen because of the rocker arms you were given.
