I've run across a 240sx that I may be BUYING. Do you guys think the effort to finish it is worth the asking price?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Its a 1993 S13 Hatch with an SR20DET installed, but it is not running right now. The wiring is all done, minus the Z32 ignitor chip which needs to be spliced in, but I have the directions for it. I need to get rid of the car, so I figure I'll try and sell the motorset and give the rolling chassis away pretty much free to the person who buys the motorset. I'm throwing in a 180sx VLSD which seems to be in decent shape. It is included because the drivers rear window is broken. It will cost $100-150 to fix and that is around what the VLSD is worth.

It is a SR20DET red top. Already installed on the motorset is the RS*R downpipe, JGY 6-puck sprung clutch, Toda Racing flywheel, Wiring harness by Wiring Specialties, metal head gasket, Syko Performance custom urethane engine mounts and Nismo transmission mount. All it needs is the ignitor chip to be isntalled, which I have a z32 ignitor chip as well. If interested, I'm willing to sell the car as a roller with the motorset in it as well as the battery and relocation kit, the downpipe and the VLSD.

The interior of the car is stripped, but I have all of the parts still, so the interior could be put back in minus the carpeting because it was in bad shape. I'm calling the car a "roller", but it is in pretty good shape. The body is staight, there are a few small dings as would be expected from a 13 year old car. Like every 240sx found in the North East, the hatch is rusted under the spoiler and the rear bumper needs to be replaced because it has a slice in it. The only other thing wrong with the car is the passenger side strut mount is broken, but I have the piece for it and will obviously include it, so that should be a relatively easy fix. I don't have the time or money to finish up this project and I need the car gone.

Some of the stuff can be used on any car and some is obviously car-specific. Everything is brand new unless specified. Here's what I've got:Walbro 255 fuel pump - $90

KYB AGX shocks - $350

Tein S-Tech Springs - $125

GReddy VSPL FMIC with GReddy 3" stainless hotpipe - $700

RS*R 3” downpipe - $125 (installed on the motorset right now)

Blitz cold air intake and stock elbow/plenum - $125

DNA manual boost controller - $95

Summit Racing battery relocation kit. Part #: SUM-G1200A and Optima Red Top battery - $125 (battery is used)

Autometer Phantom gauges: boost (part # 105-5703) and water temp. (part # 105-5732) - $50 for boost, $40 for water temp

2x-12" Thin HP Reversible Electric Cooling Fan w/ install kit - $50

Hyperboost diverter valve - $140

VLSD from 180sx will come with car - $150 (used: 40,000 mi. on it)

The price I'm asking for the chassis with the motorset is $3,250. This may seem a little high, but add it all up. I paid $2,500 from Heavy Throttle for the motorset and then installed the Toda flywheel ($400+), JGY Clutch ($350), had the wiring harness done ($100), bought the z32 ignitor chip ($40), bought and installed the Syko Performance custom urethane engine mounts and Nismo transmission mount (paid $165 on Z ilvia), 3" RS*R Downpipe ($135) and a Optima Battery ($100) with a Summit Battery Relocation Kit ($50) Alltogether, that comes to $3,750 and then you're basically getting a free car with it as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He offered to include the additional aftermarket parts for a good deal if we could work it out.

I'm considering picking up the car and then making it a realiable daily, but I don't want to sink more money than necessary into it.

Please, be honest and let me know what you all think- and if the info about the ignitor is accurate. Thanks tons!

Let me know what you guys think he missed and questions that I should ask about its completion or missing parts of concern.

I just want to be sure this won't be a project that I get in over my head with.

^ Its in the description. I'll probably purchase all of the parts he has, including hard pipes and a FMIC.

Dumb question time- I'm not to turbo savvy, but what do you mean by intake for the turbo? The maf and conical?

Sorry for the confusion. I want to BUY the car, but I want to go armed with questions to ask about it and its completion.

What else does the car look like it needs to be properly running?

He has a Blitz intake, a working MAF, stock plenum/elbow.

OH, about the drive shaft- he forgot to keep the dust collar, but got a new one recently, so it should be set to go, right?

He got a new radiator and hoses from HT. What should I do about the throttle cable not reaching, what do I need to do?

It's a bit incomplete but if you know how to solder in that ignitor chip plug that will probably be the hardest part if you've had expierience working on these types of cars.

I must say, whats the point of getting a 3 inch hotpipe if the outlet of the turbo is only 2"? ughh

Your biggest thing when buying a used car with an owner swapped SR is the wiring. The fact that its done by wiriing specialties is a great thing, it's a professional wiring job and unless the owner installed a turbo timer or a safc or something there isn't alot of chances he could screw it up.

Thats only about a 2 week rolling project right there, well work the 3 grand. Just be aware you are going to spend a little bit of money on it yourself, it seems like he isn't missing any major parts but the smaller things will come out of your pocket. Also, VLSDs are kind of ****up after about 40k miles if I'm not mistaking?

good luck

Thanks for you opinion!

The wiring was indeed done by a shop who installs motors somewhat exclusively for Heavy Throttle. No chances at mess ups- any other way and I'd drop it like a..well that doesn't matter. The soldering is easy, I already have whats necessary to do it.

I'm not sure about the lsd rumor. I had a unit from a J30 (67k when I got it) that was still great even after I got done abusing it on my previous 240.

What are the "Little things" that you think I'll have pick up? I have a small notebook going for the car already that still needs a lot of filling!
