just curious... if I get a JDM gauge cluster, will my existing cluster harness work or do I need the JDM cluster harness to splice with my engine harness? and does anyone know where I can find the JDM cluster or USDM 91-94 cluster for sale? I checked ebay but there isn't too mush there and there pretty ridiculously priced. Thanks guys

if u have a 91-94 right now then itll work fine with the tach but u will need the sr speed sensor for the kph to read correctly. i got the one i had on ebay, or u can get the 91-94 240 cluster at a wrecker or something. u will need to get the subharness with the different cluster, its like 4 in long

Dont need to switch speed sensors. I know of an extra DOHC cluster locally, let me know if your interested.

if u go to a sr cluster from a ka cluster without a sr speed sensor, will it not read correctly?

Do NOT use the JDM cluster harness. It is not pinned out the same as the US harness (just like the engine harness)

If you run the JDM cluster harness on an S13 you will blow your tail light fuse and drive around without tail lights or cluster back light.

As far as I know the JDM cluster on US harness works fine, but I didn't try it.

I used a JDM cluster when I swapped in my SR and everything worked on it except the speedometer and the gas gauge. I did have the KPH speed sensor in my transmission. I just thought the guy had sent me a busted cluster, the tach worked so I just put it on my USDM cluster. So maybe it doesnt work or maybe I just had a busted speed sensor or speedometer. Im pretty sure that was the case

Speed sensors should be the same. They both have the same part number and same numbers of teeth on the gear.

How do you get the dohc cluster's speedo to work w/ SR? I have a 90 S13 and have tried putting in dohc cluster but my speedometer doesnt work?

What do I need for my speedo to work?

There is nothing that needs to be done. If it doesnt work then there are only two places that need to be checked: Make sure the speed sensor is wired correctly off the transmission (ie plugged in), ensure the cluster/gauge isnt damaged.

I believe the speedo will work even if the dash wiring portion of the swap was done incorrectly.

Two wires run off the speed sensor. Meet up with a plug at the front of the transmission, the wires are yellow/blue and yellow/green. These two wires run around the outside of the engine bay to the driver side of the car and through the super multiple junction. From there the two run straight to the connectors for the gauge cluster. Then from there a yellow/green wire runs to the ECU (as part of the "dash rewiring" for SR swaps.

You could always run hotwires from the speed sensor all the way to the connectors on the cluster. If it still doesnt work then the speed sensor is broken. Or you could replace the VSS first and check the wiring later.
