It's throwout bearing if it's coming from the gearbox. It's just a squeaky pedal if it's coming from under the dash.
Typically, I've only heard TO bearings grind, not squeal. They get locked up with dust and bind up. Then they start to eat the fingers off the pressure plate.
If it's the pedal, there's a small plastic bushing for the return spring to sit in on the pedal arm. That bushing tends to break away and allow the spring to press directly into the arm, which in turn squeaks from the totally hot, totally wild metal on metal action. Spray some lube up in there and that will alleviate the problem, but not permanently. I find WD40 works mediocre, and a lubricant called HKS 2000 does a good job for a while (also does great at quieting squeaky door hinges)
