I'm probably going to be buying a 240 with an SR swap on it soon. Aside from the issues I'll have smogging it (any help there would be good too), I'm wondering how people with SRs are treated by cops. Do you get pulled over much for no reason other than an exhaust or something? Or is that more hondas? Have you been asked to pop your hood? What have they done? Anything else I'm forgetting to ask? I'm espesially curious to here from people in the L.A. area, since I'm going to be moving down there at the end of the year.

it really isnt as big a deal as it looks to be. I mean yeah cops are on Street Racers' *** constantly but they are going to go for the most obvious. For example dropped car loud exhaust boddy kit etc. From what I have seen most people who do have any type of illegal swap in what ever car keep that car as low profile as possible. Because one who does this type of swap KNEW they would have some sort of athority problem.

Fortunately for me I havent had to deal with cops yet and to tell you the truth I hope I never do, but you just always got to be ready for the unexpected. Be careful out there with a swap that is NOT legal on Cali Highways and dont do anything that will attract a cops attention, because that is what really gets you busted.

Maybe I'll get the car I'm looking at repainted then, maco red paint job, jdm advan rims, lowered, silvia front end. It's not entirely subtle, but even so, s13 coupes don't stand out a ton.

I'd think twice about doing anything attention getting to your car. A front end conversion and wheels are kind of pushing it. Any sort of body kit and you're just begging for attention. When dealing with the CHP, the thing that you need to remember is "Low profile". I've actually begun to get jealous of these Honduh guys running around in Civic hatches with built *** motors, and stock exhausts. On an N/A application, a stock exhaust isn't going to hurt THAT much. With a turbo, you truly do need a big ***, free flowing exhaust to get the most out of your engine.

Here's a pic of the car I'm looking at:

I wouldn't have done the front end conversion myself, but it's already done. I'm thinking a repaint to black or silver or something might be good.

Ah but Phax...you can have a big exhaust necessary for a turbo while keeping it low profile! Just use 3 inch aluminized steel tubing for all your exhaust pipes and use a dynomax straight through muffler tucked up under the bumper, heck use another one before it as a resonator and you might just stay pretty quiet while looking like you had to get a new exhaust system but went with a cheap muffler shop special :) I figure if it's not chrome or shiney and you cant see the muffler the cops will never give a 3 in. pipe sticking out from under the bumper another look.

That is a really nice car nothing extreme done to it other than the front end but I doubt cops know about the front end and even if they do the fron end is not illegal.

That's what I was thinking, the silvia front end is pretty subtle. Only thing I think I'd really change would be the color, it's not like the color will get you targeted (unless you have some odd florecent color) but red does tend to stand out a little more than other colors. I'd go with something that wouldn't stand out to much.
