Ok so my redtop died. 60 psi in cylinder 4, valve faces at the seat looked pretty crappy, and there are magically 2 light gouges about 1/8" wide down the bore. All water under the bridge at this point.
Heres the problems. Of course I wasnt expecting it to go out this soon, and it was running great just a few weeks ago, running a 8.33 at the local 1/8 track.
I called up mazworx to ask about having them install the supertech valvetrain package on their website, which has new valves, guides, springs, spring locators, and stem seals for $733, they pretty much told me $1200 for installation. So $1900 for a head rebuild with the new components, no way am I going to pay that, especially with the following quote for a rebuild, as the work is pretty much the same, the price difference should only be about the cost of the supertech kit, maybe a hair more.
My local cyl head shop, which has already built heads for xat before they went out of business, and for another local bay area shop, quoted me $265for a valve job, provided I shim it myself.I can get the supertech street/strip spring/retainer package for $382, then install tomei solids, and procams and just shim it myself.
The questions on this end, I am definetly going to be stuck with my stock T25 and 370's for a while, hopefully i'll be able to get a tune by jwt or enthalpy, to allow things to work, im sure I could get away with the 260's, however I was wanting to go with the 270's, as Im planning on going to the 2871R, with .86 exh, although I do want the RS style compressor housing, to keep things looking stock with the greddy suction kit.
Anyone think i'd be better off with the 260's and the 2871, or am I on the right path with the 270s ? I'd *like* to say i'll get into some roadracing with it, but realistically, i'll just end up at the local drag strip on the weekends.
Now onto the bottom end. There is a guy locally selling a blacktop block, and wiseco pistons, the block is already bored for the pistons, so I was considering ordering some ARP rod bolts and putting them in my stock rods. Unless the quality is good enough on the eagle rods, as they seem to be fair priced enough.
