Post

I'm in the process of rewiring my SR. I have a brand new SR harness (from Courtesy Nissan) as well as a KA transmission/alt/starter subharness from a parts car.

As far as the subharness goes, I think I have everything hooked up correctly.

There is one wire coming from the SR alternator. Its white w/ a red stripe, (thin gauge wire) I need to know where this wire goes. It appears to run into a connector, which also contains three yellow wires, three green wires, and a blank unused pin. This connector plugs in near the fuse box.

The 6 yellow/green wires that come from this connector don't go anywhere, it appears that they've been cut. Should these wires lead somewhere, or are they unnecessary?

Should I just plug in the connector and wrap up the unused wires?

*EDIT - I just read this post and got so confused I feel a little sick, if any of this doesn't make sense please let me know and I'll try to clear it up, I can take pics also. thanks for your help!

The white/red wire is your alternator light signal on the dash. It shoud go into the fuse box connectors on the bottom of the fusebox itself.

I don't mean to thread jack but I have done a search or 500 and came up with nothing except here.

This wire we are talking about is shorted to ground on my 93 w/sr I have replaced 2 batteries, 1 alt, and one really melted fusible link. I used the light tester to check for a draw and it's parasitic value revealed it's self to me. It's 1am and this is the 2nd attempt to fix it. I followed it down to the "bulb check relay". However, I can not see this thing in the driver's kick panel. My FSM says its there I just don't see it. I ask only because your work is highly recommended. I know there is a diode in the center console also but have not attempted to get to it yet. I want to see if this relay is causing the problem. Can you or someone help me find this reclusive item? A color, size, type, or pic would be much appreciated.

Thanks

This should be in the online mech catagorie now. I am such a thread jacker!

Well I have located the (BIG) area of the short but it runs from the plug on the alternator to the S.M.J on the drivers kick panel. I think I may have struck the harness making the SMIC hole. I used a pneumatic saw. Some crazy tool my Dad has for bodywork. I am going to replace the whole wire rerouting it around the the S.M.J back to the lower engine harness plug. I troubleshot it doing this and everything seemed fine. I have not drove the car (in three weeks) just let it idle. So good so far. Cool thing is if I do this I have a white/red stripe wire. So no confusion later when I forget about the nightmare I am so graciously awake for.
