Anyone here actually work on J30ts?It has been a week now since I returned to Jerry the mechanic about the never ending 'squealing' noise. He was supposed to call me back with a price on either having the a/c compressor rebuilt, or a new one.As a backup, I called our local Chamber of Commerce for advice, as I know that the BBB is a waste of time, effort and money (a company HAS to have 3 major complaints within one year before they will do anything--real).As I've said, this Jerry guy is a nice man, he worked on my sister and Aunt's cars to satisfaction, but it seems that now he is dodging me, since the very first repair out of four so far, all began with the 'squealing' noise. First they changed the fan belts, then I had to bring it back when the noise returned and the water pump blew. Then a few days later, and the noise came back even louder, so I left it with them and after two days, Jerry called to say it was the pulley bearing and had to replace the new fan belt they had put one the week before. Next day after I picked it up again, yeah, the noise came back and the battery seemed dead. This time Jerry said it was the alternator and replaced that belt all over again. Now, it's the a/c compressor freezing up (I saw it--and when the a/c is turned off: the noise goes away) and needs replacement. He laughingly stated that all of the other problems were just leading up to this major problem. The lady at the Chamber suggested I call him and not be so nice, put my foot down and remind him that the noise was the reason I first brought the car in, and if we couldn't come to some agreement on the compressor, that I should take him to Small Claims Court.Anyone have any suggestions?I mean, I have been to Small Claims some years back and won the case thanks to a copy I made of the down payment check the guy gave me, but this is different: the car still needs an a/c compressor, I have COPD and the Texas heat is bearing down.Any advice from a professional would be welcomed.ThanksJasonsos

Sorry to hear about your problems.

It may be time to "bite the bullet" and take your car into a Nissan dealer for a diagnostic consult.

Is your alternator a Nissan OEM unit (new or rebuilt) or aftermarket?

Aftermarket ones are known to cause a lot of weird problems on J's.

Thanks for your reply.* I don't know if the alternator is 'after market' or brand new, apart from him telling me that eh only, "installs 'new' parts that he backs up."The receipt doesn't state either way. It just states they installed a 'new alternator.'How can I find out without crawling underneath the car--which I can't due due to disability of the spinal cord.I think that I might be able to trace it by contacting the parts houses here in town by asking them if he buys from them, and take it from there with his info. You think? Thanks again, although I can't afford to 'bite the bullet' right now with major operation coming up in Aug. 6th.Jasonsos

Call the man up and ask for documentation of the parts he replaced on your car, and where they came from if possible. If the papers claim he has installed OEM parts, and it turns out not to be, you will then have some significant evidence to reveal that he may not have been honest in all the other work he has done. Well its not much but I hope this may help. If the alternator is not OEM ill bet thats your problem. I had the same problem with my alternator... random problems were coming up on my J and it turned out the *** hole did use a rebuilt non oem alternator, then after a month of arguaing back and fourth he finally replaced my alternator with an OEM one that i bought from the dealer at infiniti of scottsdale.

just try and get all the paperwork sorted out before the court obviously. good luck again man.
