My I35 has about 45,000 miles on it and has begun to squeal when the brakes are applied. The pads have about .25 inch left which is about half of the expected life. It seems that the noise is coming from the left rear which is the only brake with the wear indicator attached. The noise is very consistent. Is this a normal occurrence or could the wear indicator be set too close to the pad backplate?

Thanks for the reply. The brakes are the origional ones and with the exception of my inspection to see if they were approaching wear-out, there have been no changes since they left the factory. The squealing started at around 44,000 miles with the pads having about .25 inches of thickness. I suspect that the wear indicator is too long, and wanted to know if anyone else had run into this problem.

Looking at the sticky of TSB's at the top of this forum, I see that there is a TSB regarding brake noise (03-033A). Not sure if you're still under warranty, but it may be something worth taking to the dealer. I know in some cases manufacturers will extend the warranty coverage of certain items if a problem exists (normally brake pads are 12/12000). Again, I'm not sure if this is the case with the TSB mentioned. Also, there have been a couple of the 5th Gen Maximas that have had a problem with the e-brake cables binding. Sorry this doesn't help much.

For future reference, only use OEM pads and shims, and please post the year of your vehicle...makes finding info a bit easier.

Welcome to NICO.
