So, I don't know if it's the recent cold, but my hatch likes to squeak when it goes over bumps. As minor as this is, it's a huge irritation to me. I put some white lithium grease near the hinges and hydraulic arms and it didn't seem to go away. Any other ideas before I have to go to the dealer with this? It's not a big deal to go to the dealer, but I just don't have time and I want to get this thing fixed ASAP. I definitely know it's near the right side of the hatch, but not exactly sure where it happens because it seems to only happen when it's closed.

REMOVE all grease from the shiny part of the lift struts. They are not designed to be lubricated and it could actually damage the seals causing them to fail.

As for the squeaking:

- Check the spare tire, jack, tools, etc. Look for loose panels or anything else.
- The door latch, bump stops can also be adjusted to tighten things up.
- Lubricate the door catch on the bottom edge of the door.
- A common trick used on older cars is to dust the squeaky areas with talcum powder. It acts as a buffer between plastic parts and may stop the squeak. The more modern method used by the dealer is to use small strips of self adhesive felt.

I didn't lubricate the shiny shaft part of the lift hydraulics, just the pivot points where they're anchored to the body. I'll try lube the catch and see if that helps as well. Thanks!

Also, if you've still got some of your bumper to bumper 3 year warranty, you can get the service dept to adjust the back lift gate for free. Besides not costing you anything, it'll save you worrying about it and spending time trying to find and eliminate the noise. They've no doubt adjusted many rear hatches and will solve the problem much quicker than you!

How do they adjust the hatch? Is it the little catch on the bottom? I'll probably have to bring it in, but it's a busy month and hard to find time to get in there. Thanks for all the replies.

The catch on the door sill as well as the bumpers along the door edges are all adjustable. They can also check to see if any of the interior trim is loose.

Question: Have you ever ridden in the back seat of your Rogue while someone else is driving? It might give you a better idea of where the noise comes from.
