so my '97 240sx is in need of rear brake pads i guess, it makes more squeaking (when i brake) vs no squeak at all.

it also takes a few cranks on the starter to start my car, not really turn wrist cranks, but the engine does the RRR RRR RRR then starts kind of deal.

my brother said i should get a new valve cover gasket for the long cranking start and new brake pads for the rear, anybody else think these 2 things ARENT what i should get? and where do you suggest i get these parts?

should i also get a tune up? i bought the car from a dealership with 67k now its on 81k.

& btw where can i post my future problems without having to start a whole new thread?

The valve cover does sound a bit far fetched. Not sure what your describing with the start issue. As far as rear brakes go, have a look at the pads ,do they look like they are at sensors? If so yes replace them. I recommend you go with OEM pads as they are less suseptable to brake squeek. Also when replacing the pads I recommend you have the rotors machined to remove any glazing. Glazing is pretty much the #1 cause of squeek especially when the brakes are cold [ when first driving after sitting several hours] and again once they get hot from heavy/frequent brake applications. When doing the pads its recommend you apply PBC grease between the shims on the back of the pad, the shims coupled with the grease application help prevent vibration during braking which can eminate as squeek.
