My sister and I bought new 2002 Pathfinders four years ago. Mine had terribly squeaky belts which I replaced at 22,000 miles. The vehicle now has 39,000 miles and they are screaming again.

Also, my sister had the same problem with her Pathfinder and had the belts replaced at 48K, but had to return it to the dealer within a week because of the horrible screeching.

Anybody got any ideas or advice for this problem? How long should the belts on a Pathfinder last?

Thanks from a rookie here!!

30k is the normal service life, so youre not even 2/3s done...

Tighten the tensioners.... That should take care of it, i bet they were put on tight enough..

Thanks! Since I wrote the post, I found out that the dealer did that exact service on her car and it eliminated the problem.

I appreciate your help...

My 2002 Pathfinder developed squeaky belts. I had them replaced in the summer. But the squeaky noise has become worse in winter. The noise is only when the vehicle is cold. I talked to the dealer and he tells me that is a problem with the new type of belts and it will go away soon. But it is not, and driving me crazy! Should i be considering replacing with other types of belts?

Thambosa, I have the same exact problem with my '01 QX4. My belts only squeal in extremely cold temperatures. Many people here have had the same problem and have remedied it by having the tensioners tightened. I'm going to do the same when I bring it in for my next oil change and see if it solves the problem.

Wow....my 01 Qx4 still does it. Went to a deal and they tried to sell me on the fact that it is my air conditioner compressor. Not sure what they are talking about. I have new belts so I can't see it being them. Will have to have them tightened. Hopefully it will fix the horid sound.

I hate dealerships.I have a deep hatred of my local Nissan dealer -- I actually drive an hour and a half to another one outside of Indy when I need service (they also have an Infiniti dealership, so if need-be I can do that).

But yeah the local dealer is an absolute douchenozzle.
