I've noticed that recently the belts in my car were squeaking when it started up, until the fan kicked on. A few days ago, it was really cold out, like 30-35 degrees, and the belts were squeaking any time the engine dropped under 2000 RPM. Today I went out and checked the belts and they were taught... so now I ask... what could be causing the squeaking:help? Any help is appriciated, as always!

It could be a number of things. First of all, are you sure all the belts really are tight? Are they in good condition, ie no glazing? My bet is that one or more of your belts are not as tight as you think they are and need minor adjustment.

I'm also bumping this over to Technical.

'k... they felt tight... how tight should they be using a torque wrench?

Another question... last night when I was stopped at a light, I noticed that my brakes were making a squeaking noise... it lasted for about 1/2 of a second, then silence for about 2 seconds, then the squeak again. I'd take my foot off the brake and just leave the clutch in, and the squeaking would stop, then I'd press the brakes again and they would start squeaking. Is this the same squeaking they were reffering to in the 240sx.org F.A.Q? If not, what can I do about it. Oh yeah, it wasn't very loud... if I'd had my radio on I wouldn't have heard it, but it was noticeable.

Again, thanks.
