I have a 2009 Rogue I bought new. I've had it for 3 1/2 yrs & it's got 26,568 miles on it. I basically drive my car gently because I plan on keeping it for a LONG time. I don't brake hard at all, take it for all it's routine maintenances, etc. Even the Nissan dealership guy said there's nothing they can do & it depends on how you brake...I assume nothing they can do besides replacing the brakes entirely.

Do fairly new Rogue brakes tend to squeak easily? What did you do about it?

Over time the grease doesn't do its job.
Does it rain a lot in your town?

Or could be the brake wear indicator.
It does depend on how you drive.
our Murano had 27k miles when we changed the rear brakes.

Hi there, I have close to 55,000 km on my brakes and they don't squeek, although light braking does often produced a groaning sound as the pads slide along the rotors. In terms of brake pad life, that is highly dependant on driving conditions so I can't say if your pads are worn, normally if your brakes start to squeel that is the first guess - worn pads. There is actually a brake wear indicator that will make a squeek by design to inform you that your pads need to be replaced, but since your shop checked your brakes I'm assuming your pads are not worn yet.

Do your brakes squeek under light brake pressure, heavy pressure, or all times equally?

One thing I'd recommend is having a brake service performed which involves disassembling the calipers, cleaning and lubricating slide surfaces and deglazing the rotors so they make better contact with the pads and operate quieter. I just had my dealership perform this again for me and it makes a big difference. Some recommend performing this yearly, I feel it really depends on your driving conditions, mileage etc.. I live in a snowy area with quite a bit of road salt so I perform the service every 1-2 years. As a matter of fact we have an excellent How To article complete with photos showing the step by step process if you want to consider doing this yourself.

Hi TaiLuu & thanks kerrton, I live in southern California, some of the best weather in the country, so not much rain & I'm never in snow. I never really brake hard, I gently & gradually come to a nice stop. Sometimes, there's squeaking & it's embarrassing, so I raise my foot & gently brake again & it won't squeak then.

I just never thought brakes would start squeaking like this. I just went to the dealership the other week to keep up w/ the routine matintenance & I told them about my brakes, which they said they'd look at, but the next day, they started squeaking again! I previously drove a new Honda Civic coupe for 15+ yrs & the brakes never squeaked & I drove as much then as I do now, which isn't much. I'm not the car savvy & "roll my sleeves up & get under the hood" type of person, so I guess I'll have to find a good mom & pop repair place because the Nissan place will charge an arm & a leg I'm sure.

Again, your brakes should not squeek, I'm surprised that your shop let you leave without addressing the issue. If you find a competant brake shop and let them know that your brakes recently started to squeek they will surely be able to correct the issue. Be very careful however, as they may try to take the easy fix which could be the most costly and recommend replacing all your pads and perhaps even the rotors. I would not accept this costly repar unless they can prove to you that your pads and/or rotors are indeed worn beyond salvage. Otherwise, they should be able to elminate the squeek with much more cost effective solutions such as deglazing the rotors, cleaning and redressing the calipers and the pads. Bottom line, the brakes should not squeek and some basic fixes should take care of the problem.

I have been having the same issue for my 08 too for a year or two. But it only happens when I break lightly.
It just passed the inspection with 10/32" on both front and rear break.

Mrs. wildcat08 was having the same problem with her 2009. Approximately 50k miles on it at the time. It would mainly happen when applying light to medium pressure. Applying more pressure or releasing then reapplying the brakes would usually stop the noise. I followed the disc brake service how-to written by philipa_240sx post6224110.html?hilit=disc%20brake%20service. Unfortunately, it looks like many of the pictures aren't working right now. The pads had plenty of material left on both the front and rear. Rotors looked good. The vertical grooves in the rear pads on both sides were completely full of packed-in brake dust which I believe was causing most of the noise. I cleaned everything up with brake cleaner and an air compressor, and then applied lube and anti-seize in the appropriate places. Since then, there has been virtually zero squeaking or squealing. Hope this helps!

Re: pics

I moved the photos to Photobucket. The old links to the images are no longer working. Eventually they will be fixed. In the meantime, you can browse the pics here:

Thanks for all the helpful info guys! I was out for several hours today driving to a few places & the brakes didn't really squeak at all this time. That was the most driving I've done in one day in a while. If the brakes could be like they were today, I'd have no issues! We'll see what happens in the next week.

they probably just need a little grease/anti-squeak on the shims. its a common problem. thats one bad part on letting things last longer, is rubber/lube/grease/plastic will fade, rot, dry up and you still have issues.
PS: nice to see you on here 2009IndigoBlue ;)
