Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me why a belt (I don't know but I think it is my alternater belt) underneath my car squeals only when the car is very cold and sits for more that eight hourts.

I had my alternater changed around the summer of 2006 and I did notice it right afterwards, but I got underneath and tightened the belt again. I figured that it should be tighter to stop the squealing.

The squealing only lasts about two or three seconds and then goes away. I also had my timing done professionally about a month after the alternator.

Could the squealing be that the belt needs tightening agian or a new belt is needed or could it be something else? I did not have the belt changed when the alternater was changed, but I did order a whole timing kit from Infiniti of Scottsdale ( I don't know if an alternater belt was included).

Thanks for any help,

Geoff.

If it's probably just needs to be tightened or replaced.

Maybe the belt is too tight, since it shrinks when its cold and expands when hot.

Try to loosen it a bit.

I actually got under the car today and turned the tension rod clockwise. I believe that it tightened it a lootle more. I think that it did fix the problem becuse the belt was starting to squeak every time I start the car.

If it squeaks again, then I will loosen it to see.

Thanks,

Geoff.
