I was looking at buying a car but the guy said the suspension was sqeaky and he thought that it might need new shocks. Could the shocks cause suspension to be sqeaky?

Yes.

As well as many other suspension parts - anything from upper mounts, springs, rubbing rods/arms, bad bushings. Some of these produce more of a clunk than a squeak, but these are 10-17 year old cars we are talking about here, haha.

yeah, but it's a 98 mustang gt w/ 71k miles so it shouldn't need new shocks yet.

Yea, but it's a mustang... Ford isn't known to use the best quality parts in a lot of their cars...

The struts sometimes make noise as well as aftermarket CC plates if so equipped. The car is 10 years old. New shocks and struts are in order but may not be the problem.
