How tight can I get the belts before they cause damsge to themselves? My motor keeps making shrieking noises if I rev high or down shift? I wanna tighten those tensioners all the way but don't know how tight to make them? I have no idea where the noise is coming from.

First off find out where the noise is coming from. Get a friend to help.

Tighten the belts so that it deflects (moves) about a 1/4 inch either direction at the center of the longest space between pullys. If the noise is from the belts and they are tightened correctly then they are probaly glazed over and need replacement.

The noise could be the idler pullys so check them.

Hey thanks man! I checked it out bout an hour ago. I checked the idle pulley and it wasn't that, it turned out to be that the belts glazed over. I'm gonna hit the auto parts store in the morning.

My motor sometimes sounds like it's squeeking(not a screeching belt sound) only at high rpm, would this be the idler pulley? I've revved it and listened under the hood and it's coming from one of the pulleys, but I don't know which one would make a squeeking sound like this..

A high pitched noise from the area of the belts is most often caused by a belt that has glazed over due to either age or running just a little loose for a period of time.

Most often it is found under "high load" such as quick acceleration or when you add a load, such as turning on the A/C or switching on the headlights while at a low idle.

Once a belt or iddler stars to squeel it will not go away without repair. It may become intermitant but it will return.

Check bent tension and look at hte belts. They should NOT be shiny or excesifly cracked. If yo uare not sure and it has been a few years go ahead and change them. They are not terably expensive. While you have the belts off you can check the Idlers for excesive play etc.

Hope this helps
