Anyone want to take bets on how long it will be before Spyker sells off the worthwhile assets to China? Saab is saved... but only for now.

My convertible was driven away by the Saab doctor today who made a house call. I can't wait to get it back.

Huh. I never would have guessed Spyker would buy them. Maybe they'll sell Saab to Fisker and continue the obscure car-maker buyoff.

Bernie was in talks regarding this purchase too. It's too bad that crazy old kook didn't pull the trigger, I'd love to see him in charge of a modest company like Saab.

Saab was born from an old aviation company, now bought by Spyker, known for their cars with aviation style cockpits.

That's a shiny interior. Might blind me on a sunny day.

Someone want to chop a Spyker designed Saab?

It can't be all bad, Saab has a relatively decent looking design for their cars, match that up with an Audi engine (which is what powers all Spykers), add in some German designed brakes, with some minor tweaks to the interior and and body design by Spyker themselves and you'll have a fairly safe, efficient, yet powerful car with some unique design cues for mid grade BMW pricing. Seems like a win win to me.

How is this not an awesome thing?

Saab used to be wicked cool. Bulletproof kooky purpose-designed turbocharged snow-tanks designed by people who really have to drive that weather.

GM destroyed the brand, but now it's back in the hands of people who hopefully understand it. Also, the brand might benefit from some trickle-down tech from Spyker, which can only be good.

I'm very excited about this, but I also love all things Saab, at least old Saabs. I'm glad to see the old Swede soldier on.

The new 9-5 looks pretty damn good in all it's Acura TL wannabe styling glory. Plus it has a HUD, is powered by a tried and true turbo engine. Honestly I don;t think we see as many Saab's on the road over here because they are over priced and their marketing strategy sucks. But they do have some pretty freakin' cool commercials, I just wouldn't buy one based on those commercials.

New 9-5 looks much better than the new TL, IMO.

I might try to sell my wife on one.

More on the other side of the fence for the Saab deal.

Best thing that could have happened. They needed to get away from GM for a long time.

It'd be hard for something NOT to look better than the new TL. Honda screwed up bigtime.

I don't think the 9-5 looks like a TL wannabe at all.

I dig the TL from the side, as a silhouette...if I squint. The details are horrendous.

Someone wrote in to Car and Driver to say that they thought the round vents on the Aileron look like tennis ball launchers. I agree that they look pretty silly. Something more sleek would have been better.

I think Saab is doomed. This just gives them one more decade before they become a low-end Chinese brand like MG Rover.

Wait, isn't Alfa supposed to be coming to the states under the Saab badge? Or am I just making random s*** up in my head?

Genii Capital and Bernie is a bad mix. Spyker is a bad mix as well. I don't trust either of these, mostly Bernie cause he's a greedy little puke, but that Genii Capital firm......yuck another one of those "investment" companies just to be weary of.
