so i recently went cheap and bought a 65 dollar SPW "cold air" intake. i bought it from some place called racinglab in Hayward, CA. so anyways, when i got home, i took out my stock intake setup, and tried to install it, but nothing seemed to fit. so i went to a friend of mine whos a bit more knowledgeable on working with cars, and he couldnt get it to fit in either. it seems like the piping was bent at a wrong angle, the piping also wasnt long enough, and nothing really lined up well. so now all i have is a 65 dollar intake cone in my car. the rest of the intake set up is in my room because they wont take it back since i scratched the **** out of the finish because of the ****ty fitting. does anyone else use this intake? can anyone help me out with a solution other than spending another 150 on an AEM, or other high quality intake?

You know the intake tubes don't do much on NA, the cone filter helps but unless you want bling just keep the stock tube and cone filter. You live you learn.

get that pipe cut, relocate your battery, and make a short ram!

or

what was the pipe hitting against? radiator shroud? hood? radiator itself?

I have an injen intake for my 89, fits perfect . for SOHC's all that is available is hotshot and injen, so it's not like i had much of a choice anyway .

98s14inaz is right, Intake/CAI doesn't do much by itself, but combine that w/ header/hi-flow/exhaust and it helps a little more. 3whp is 3whp .

thanks for input you guys.

98s14inaz i didnt know the intake tube didnt do much, but i know a whole intake system itself doesnt do much to begin with. it makes me feel better about just having the cone on there after knowing that the tube doesnt do much. and i definitly learned not to go with cheap parts now.

brokeas240sx the pipe wasnt really hitting against anything, it was just that the piping and the rubber connector werent long enough to fit into the throttle body after the bend around the fan shroud. the main thing it was coming in contact with was the radiator cap, which scratched it all up. even if the thing was long enough, the mounting extension that would keep it from jumping around under the hood while driving wouldnt line up. im thinking of going to some hardware store or somehting to try and pick up some stuff to make it fit.

but on a good note, i love the way the KA sounds with the intake cone on it. really low and agressive, not like the honda wailing/buzzing sound i hear all the time. and i like that it wont make any real noise until its open throttle, thats awesome.

We did some dyno tests and they were about the same between stock tube and bling tube. the biggest difference was getting rid of the resonator and airbox and replacing with the cone.

Bleh, so I basically wasted $150 on a Hotshot?

I have a SOHC with a 2.5" hi-flow cat, 2.5" mandrel bent piping, and tanabe muffler. Ive come to the conclusion that a $300 hotshot header wont do to much seeing as how Im only doing i/e anyway, so Im gonna get a $150 Tsudo header (I trust their stuff, had one of their universal mufflers on the stock piping civic, which I got compliments on).

So for a while, I probably will only have a intake (will be shipped 1-6-05) and the exhaust.

here's the other lie. the stock replacement K&N flows just as well for an NA. you just also have to take out the resonator & cut a hole in the airbox
