i did something friday i swore i wouldn't do with this old of a car.....i ran it til the gas light came on. i was stuck in traffic and broke, so i just ran it with the light on the 40+ miles home. well, on wednesday i filled her back up and drove to work, no issues. after work though, when i cranked her up the CEL came on and stayed on. as always i had my rough idle, but when i accelerated it didn't go away. i'm guessing i might have picked up some trash and fouled my plugs, but i'm curious if any of you "seasoned" veterans have any other ideas. as i've stated in many posts, i don't have money just to throw at this car currently. i'd like to be able to pick up what i need and it take care of the problem.

First thing I would try is adding a bottle of Redline SL1 in a half tank of gas.
As well as replacing the fuel filter.

PEP boys is the only place here in DFW that carries it as far as I know.

couldn't find it through the pep boys website so i checked o'reilly's and it says they carry it in the dfw area....actually they carry it at the seagoville location, right up the road from home.

good deal !
It works great. I thought I was losing an injector earlier this week and planned on Ohm'ing them out when I got home.
On the way I put a bottle of SL1 in and a few miles later It was running smooth as butter !

Ive consistently run the tank below the E line with the light on with no problems. You likely have a dirty fuel tank. Not sure how hard it would be to remove the injectors to check the lines but as long as your fuel filter works it wouldnt hurt to check there first for a blockage.

You have to carefully pull the ECU out.
The light and trim pot are on the bottom IIR.

ok, well mine was easy to take out since it only has the bottom bracket screw holding it in place.

codes:

32 EGR Function
34 Knock Sensor
51 Injector Analysis

i watched it cycle 5 times to make sure those were the only codes that were being displayed. so, with that..i'm guessing my egr & my knock sensor is bad. :( not sure what the injector analysis is.......

The EGR codes is probably a clogged tube.
I had the same code, and it was clogged right where the egr Tube goes into the Intake on both sides of the engine.
Cleaned it out and the code was gone.

i'm just gonna cut my losses with this car. i've pretty much made up my mind to sell it. it's been eating me alive in gas as i drive 90 miles a day, round trip, for work.

Fixing the codes will more than likely result in better gas mileage but regardless these cars are quite inefficient because of their weight. Where are you located?

Well,
At least you will get a lot more trade in value when Its running smooth and pulling hard ! :gapteeth:
I swear by that SL1 , no other "over the counter" additive that I have tried comes close !
