Sputtering Problem on a S13

I have a 93 S13 with 185kI maintain it well however recently, from time to time, my car would start to sputter when I apply gas.Power is cut to almost in half, and when I rev the exhaust, the car doesn't rev normal, instead it sounds almost like a wrx building boost. Also I get a lot of engine vibrations. After a while of driving like this, the car will go back to normal on and off?I changed the fuel filter, wires, and plugsI think it is a fuel problems but just can pin point itany ideas?thanks

hi, and welcome to nico.

first things first. i would give the harness a good wiggle test. see if you are able to make the car mess up by tapping and wiggling stuff. if not, you need to make the car mess up by driving. once it is messing up you need to check the timing, fuel pressure, etc.

also, the swirl control valve and its control solenoid have been known to mess up. when the stick shut the valve severly limits the air coming in to the engine so it will idle fine but be hard to rev over 2-3k.

is changing the fuel pump hard?Also how much is it for a stock one?My question is since the fuel pump is electric, wouldn't the car not start is the fuel pump broke?Also how do you check timing?thanks i sound like a newb, but nissan is new to meon a honda its as easy as pielol

im not thinking pump so much as pressure reg and sock filter.you check timing by shining a timing light at the crank pulley.

NO! dont replace fuel pump haha., I have the same problem and it helped a little but not much at all. I got a SR though.
