sputtering and loss of power at low RPMs under high load when the motor is warm.

I just did a partial tune up with new NJK iridium plugs, cap and rotor, and some MAF cleaner and it's slightly better, doesnt sputter so much now as just fall flat on it's face.

Plugs smelled of gas, also exhaust has been smelling rich lately, only been driving in town and i have a feeling my mpg's are down.

I replaced a single fuel injector a month or so ago that died.

I havent had this car very long so not sure of what's been done to it.

I'm about to go down the usual suspect list of TPS,CTS,O2S but before i bother with wasting time and money on those sensors, i wonder if it might be timing(previous owner making a mistake of advancing it to much or maybe the new injector is actually bad, or anyone else have been in this situation and solved it?

searching just has wild speculation and no exact matches of symptoms. I have a list of things to try, but i'm looking to see if anyone had these symptoms and solved it and what you did to fix it to help me save time and money. :dblthumb:

Besides the issue, it runs smooth and has good power.

actually, after listening to some youtube videos of what detonation sounds like i think i have some. only it only happens during the first second after pressing foot on throttle, only after slow roll or from a stop. not anywhere else in powerband (i just thought it was teh fan hitting a loose shroud or seomthing.

i have this hunch that extra gas is getting into the chamber under idle conditions and detonating right as i start to drive. does that make sense?
