check these pics out. Dont use oil for north carolina in the summer in washington state in the winter when leaking oil and ohh yeah dont beat on the dang car if you are using that oil!!!I am picking up a new engine friday but a question is this gonna be rebuildable. Do they sell oversized main bearings? I would just need to get the crank ground down a bit.I am saving up for the ams rebuild kit!!!(the one with forged rods and pistons!!!

The damage in your pictures is of the bearings. How does the crankshaft look? Normally if the bearing doesnt spin, the crank can be polished and your good to go with new standard size bearings.

Just take it to a machine shop and have them Mic the crank they can tell you how far out of tolerance the crank is. My buddies Main Bearings spun and tore his crank all to hell on his VW R32 Corrado (hell of a car) but hes out 600 for that crank you have a much wider choice so if the crank is done just get a new one no sense in having that one rewelded and then ground back down.

I will be tearing into the motor more tomarrow, there could still be damage to the rod bearings and that portion of crank as well, right?this is what it sounded like when running if that helps anythinghttp://s179.photobucket.com/al...7.flv

Sounds like you had a bit of rod knock also since it seemed RPM dependent.

If I was you and the availability of KA motors just get a new crank. No sense in getting oversized bearings when you can probably get a crank for cheaper than the bearings themselves.

From what I see in the pictures, the mains dont look too bad. The rods is normally where you see the most damage though. Your number 2 and 4 mains feed your rods with oil. Issues in the mains usually means the rod bearings are worse because they are down stream in the oiling circuit. I dont see any blackend rods which is usually a good sign that the bearings havent spun.

Bearings are made of a softer material than the crank so a bearing can be fairly damaged and your crank can still be just fine.

Take the crank to a machine shop and have them inspect it. They should be able to tell you right away if you can get away with just a good clean and polish or if it would need to be reground. With the price of KA motors being as cheap as they are, I would suggest just replacing the crank rather than turning it if its out of spec.

ok so I dug in the motor a little further and the #4 rod bearing spun! All the rest were fine, #3 was worn but I think it is just cause motor was used with over 100k miles on it! I am picking up another motor tomarrow and hopefully be boosting by the end of the weekend!

about that new used motor I bought $250 bucks and 12 hrs of driving to buy a totally fuCCCKKKERRD up engine. Every single bearing was spun. And the owner must have drove like that for months!!! WTF. I am getting 150 back from this lil ahole, Better than nothing. With that I am gonna buy some bearings and take my crank to the machine shop to check it out! Hopefull I will one day be able to drive my car again! IVAN you got a head gasket and some bearings for me.
