After 3 days of constant rain, my sunroof controls started leaking water. Seems like an odd place because I would expect somewhere around the sunroof itself. It was dripping from the control buttons and I seen some drip into the two light covers. I didn't see a recess to pop off the light covers(like there are everywhere else on the car) and I don't even know where to begin on removing the control panel to find out where it's leaking from. I checked all the roof fabric and none was wet. Should I pull a fuse that goes to all these controls so nothing bad happends?:help

I remember reading a post somewhere (probably on the yahoo site) that dealt with a blocked sun roof drain line. The blocked line runs down the front pillar but I don't recall if there was only one or two lines. I seem to recall the left side being mentioned.

Thanks Vimy, that gave me a start. I couldn't find anything on the yahoo sites, but i searched on the maxima site just to see if there were similar problems on a different car. I can only assume Nissan has similar methods for all of their sunroofs. I checked two drains in the front of the sunroof and they don't look clogged. It was mention that there is a hose that connects to that drain that may have come disconnected from the drain. I also heard that there are two more drains in the rear, but if there is I can't see them on the J.

Does anyone know how to safely remove the sunroof control panel and roof lining so I can see all of these hoses and such?

I'm looking at the sun roof illustration in the service manual (BF-57). It looks like there is a drain hose indicated on the left rear and what could be a drain hole on the left front. These are most likely mirrored on the right side. Could you try putting a straw into the drain opening and blowing it out to see if they're flowing properly?

Use compresses air if you can, that will usually clear the lines unless something crawled down there and died (actually happend to me in a BMW).

You can also use a flexable rod, like a fish tape, but you risk rupturing the line somewhere inside the frame. Either way, that should solve the problem. Also make sure your sunroof is aligned correctly at close, sometimes you end up with a crack that can leak in heavy rain or if you park at certain angles.

i'll try some compressed air. Just seems like if it was clogged there would be water standing around the drain hole...but everything was completely dry.vimy, i looked at BF-57 earlier and honestly I thought it wasn't very helpfull. It gives schematics on how the sunroof was put together, but it's not like a Haynes manual(i wish there was one) that says 'now do this and that'.i'll try some of ya'lls tricks offered and see what happens. guess i really won't know until next rain. for now i need to drain the panel.
