OK so i am looking to get a new cell phone again. I dont use it to surf the web or do email stuff. I hate texting but it seems like all my friends do it. I need the phone to have a keyboard and also a good camera and battery life. I guess also the option to do some surfing. I havent looked at upgraded plans yet but any feed back from what you own would be great. I dont care about brand or anything like that. The price doesnt make much of a differnce dont want anything cheap though. Thanks for the input in advnace.

Maybe a BlackBerry Curve 8330? Has a full QWERTY keyboard (none of that touchscreen garbage), a 2-megapixel camera, plays music/some videos/YouTube, has web/email access and a bunch of other stuff. I have one with VZW and you'd have to pry the damn thing out of my hands for me to give it up, I don't bother to whip out my laptop on campus half the time anymore.

Downsides:-battery life isn't the greatest (I can get 8-10 hours on the stock battery before it goes dead but I'm a heavy user)-screen is small (2.5")-if you're a Mac user, you're pretty much screwed if you want to backup stuff or upgrade the OS (official tools/programs are Windows-based for now)-requires a data plan ($)-RIM's browser kinda sucks on some sites, but that's what Opera Mini is for-sort of expensive

No clue on how Sprint prices its plans, but VZW charges $30 for an "unlimited" non-tethering data plan on top of the cost for the phone service.

Love the Blackberry Storm, but its on Verizon, my plan is cheaper than Sprints and its unlimited. I have tried other companies but I ave to say Verizon has been by far the most reliable for me and easiest to deal with. I would rank Sprint barely above T-Mobile as the worst.

Depends on usage, for web, email and general biz stuff the Storm is far superior and easy to use. Facebook stuff is way easier on Storm. I does function as a mp3 player as well, 3.2mp camera is ok and comes with 8GB removable mini card. I got mine for 149 w/ 2 year, 199 I think is now the going rate. The Iphone does have a lot of cool apps, but i'd never use most of them, it is a cooler "gadget Phone" but its on ATT, and I ain't switching and paying 30 bucks a month more for the same plan.

Oh and after a few days getting used to the virtual keyboard, it is one of the coolest features ever.

Only if you like garbage phones and overpriced cell plans lol. I'll admit that their high end phones are nice, but they have some of the WORST low-mid end phones out there. Why they love LG so much completely kill me.

Ok, here's my opinion...

If you need window's functionality get a WM6 device. If you don't. STAY THE F*&K AWAY from them. I do a LOT of business from my phone and use the mobile office suite, so WM6 was a must, but it is very bloated, eats up batteries like none other, and is buggy. I have an HTC Touch Pro.

My wife and I both had HTC Moguls prior to our new phones and they were buggy as all hell. The Touch Pro definitely fixed a lot of problems, but it still has issues.

My wife decided on the Samsung Instinct. I really like her phone. The touch screen is probably second only to the iPhone (and only in certain areas, it also trumps the iPhone in others).

The battery life is superb, swapping apps is quick and easy, and it's mostly intuitive...

On the negative side. The image quality of both streaming video and pictures sucks by comparison to my Touch pro (2mp vs 3.2 mp camera makes a difference).

As for Blackberries...I definitely see their positive side, but the 64mb memory address limit annoys me especially since Blackberry has some odd ways of handling memory management (erasing messages is one of them). I don't like the idea of having to install and uninstall apps because of memory problems or having to hard boot the phone every couple of days to reset the cache.

The Rant isn't a bad phone. Screen size is a little limited, but it has both a QWERTY and keypad which allows for T9 IIRC.

My experience so far is that Sanyo phones have the best reception on Sprint's network. Samsung phones are die hard. LGs are the epitome of garbage (great features, the fail to work or a phone that power cycles on it's own). I don't care for motorola at all because their phones are too 90s nokia (overly basic, but with unintuitive menus).

Sprint and Verizon have the fastest data networks btw. So all of you who love AT&T can drool as our network moves data faster lol.

The iphone has the best mobile browser I've seen to date though!

M

Yup, I find that the BB's to go series works for me, Word/Excel/PowerPoint

But man WM6 and before that WM5 phones...holy hell, you better have a lot of patience, batteries and willingness to hard boot your phone multiple times a day...

As far as plan prices actually if you're like me, 450 min and unlimited data, YES UNLIMITED no per MB BS... its only 69.99 per month and I get 22% off that..and almost everyone I know is on Verizon so I never eve come close to 450 min.

Not sure where you got the 64mb number...the storm runs 128mb - and people complain that's still too small (256 would have been nicer, but oh well...)

There is also a nice little feature called "memory cleaner" that cleans the cache out of the phone whenever you tell it to. Not to mention a bunch of 3rd party apps that do the same, making the battery pull unnecessary.

You're right, they're not comparable - the Storm is a better device in the end - just like the iPhone, it's started buggy, but is only getting better. The iPhone is for fanboys - let me know when you can send me that picture message with your iPhone

I got this information straight from one of the blackberry forums regarding the Curve. It had to deal with memory addressing limitations. And the cache cleaner was not working for quite a few people.

Having to clear your own cache is ridiculous (I have to deal with something similar on my Touch Pro).

I have a Blackberry 8830 on Verizon. VZW is the best service here in NY followed by ATT and lastly Sprint and Tmobile.

You have to clean the cache on your computer too remember?

Yeah, but since Verizon/Vodafone is the 2nd largest carrier in the world (Vodafone is by itself, Verizon is the largest in the US) next to China Mobile, I sincerely doubt we'll see an iphone as Verizon will not let apple have major control over the service (ATT saw this as an opportunity to grow, and it worked but not to the extent they thought, however Mac has been advertising for engineering jobs with experience in CDMA, so it could happen....but I wouldn't hold your breath.

+1 for verizon. now that they have friends and family numbers it's even better, and you get a free phone upgrade every 2 years with the largest coverage in the nation. if you don't want to pay for data plans, find a phone that's wifi capable. there is free wifi point just about everywhere you go.
