Well, I have searched and asked questions in the 240 forum and had some luck. Since this is where the mechanics answer questions I figured I'd give it a shot.

I want new springs for my 240 but have heard that some springs will not fit the convertible? I want it dropped some, at MOST 2" and I am going with the KYB AGX adjustable shocks.

Any help would be appreciated.

Im not totally sure, but I assume the suspension is basically the same on the conv as the hatch or coupe, check part numbers for stock springs for a hatch or coupe of the same year, and if they are the same then you are good to go.

I posted about this a while ago, but here goes again. The convertable uses a stiffer suspension setting borrowed from the 300ZX. I'm going to call up Nissan and ask for part numbers now and see if I can shed some light on this subject. I'll post the numbers tomorrow after I find out

wow i dontr post alot on these forums, but i just got my convertible also about a month ago,

wondering why sportlines/agx's dont fit the convertible, i asked colin form PDM, as to he replied...

spring rates are diffrent in the conv, the conv is heavier, spring rates are diff

COILOVERS SHOULD WORK SCICNE SPRING RATES ARE ADJUSTABLE REMEMBVER THAT

just finished talking to my nissan tuning shop. the dealership wasn't helpful at all, so i went to some knowledgable people :D

the big thing about the shocks are that the springs are borrowed from the 300ZX. the front struts are still 240SX struts, but the rear struts are a combo 300Z/240SX from what i can tell. the mount is a 240 mount, but the rest of the strut (from what i understand) is a 300 strut. a 240 strut (such as the KYB's) should bolt in since the chassis is the same. i'm gonna confirm that with my mechanic tomorrow

when i talked to the dealership, they couldn't confirm that the vert springs matched the 300 springs, so i'm left in the dark on that. the guy suggested that i go pull some springs from a 300Z in a junkyard and try them on (like i'm gonna take the time to do that  )

btw, spring rates on coilovers aren't changeable. to change spring rates, you need to put new springs on. look at SCC's issue from last month where they messed with tuning the suspension. the changed springs physically whenever they wanted a new spring rate. and they're running JIC coilovers.

I checked with both our suppliers (H&R and Eibach) and neither list a spring set for the convertible. They also exclude the convertible model from the listings. They do not show the 300zx springs as working on the car either. The only way to know for sure is to check with Nissan and see what the part numbers are on both vehicle springs.
