hi i have a 92 240sx se and would like to drop it maybe an inch or so...i was thinking about just getting the eibach 1.2 inch springs but i've heard from alot of people here that when you lower your car you also need to get new shocks..anyway the eibach website says it will work fine with your stock one's and so i was wondering if you guys think it wouldnt be too hard on my stock shocks with suck a small drop...i plan on getting new shocks too but not for another year probably because i have other financial priorities...so whats your oppinions

No, when you lower your car its almost a necessity to get new shocks as well (imo), if not you risk bottoming out.

KYB AGX is one of the most popular shocks among the board.

how much would a set of shocks run me about?? and would that be fairly easy to install myself or would it be better to have a shop do it? and if so how much do shops usually ask for something like that?...thanks for the reply

you sound like you dont know a great deal about suspension, so i would not advise putting springs/shocks on yourself. its usually about a 3 hour install, most shops are around $60-$80 an hour, so simple math says $200-$300. i would highly reccomend kyb agx's, and not the gr-2's. there is a suspension forum <----, and they have all the answers to your questions in threads already. try using the search button.

chances are your shocks are starting to go bad anyway. Id get new ones. just get a buddy that knows something about it and get some spring compressors, and youre on your way.

actually gr-2s are notorious for blowing with over an inch drop. they are pretty much a tuned up stock version. the agx's are both adjustable and built more for aftermarket springs, so they would be the better option. why pay for 2 sets of gr-2s when you blow the first, when you could have spent a little extra cash and gotten the agx's? you gotta think about the long run...

i have been running gr-2s with prokits for almost 6 months now, no problems. sportlines or equivilent will def need tokiko, koni, or kyb AGX's.

If you are just dropping it for looks theres no need to go crazy with shocks/springs. If you care about performance tien or RSR springs are your best bet.

dont let $ limit you tho, you will regret it. save up so you have exactly what you want.

it is definatly a good idea to get new shocks now. you will probably regret it later if you dont.

That being said, when you lower a car slightly (1" or so) and do not change the shocks, you effectively change the shocks range of operation. This can give the shock a sort of new life. However, if they are in very bad shape this will not be enough to keep you from bottoming out or feeling bouncy.

While Eibach says you can run the Pro-Kit with stock dampers, it won't work well for long if the dampers have some miles on them already. The GR-2 is set up aprox. 15% firmer than stock to make up for worn bushings and suspension components. They are not designed for lowered suspensions since the travel is the same as stock on the struts and the valving is not all that much firmer. They do not warranty them when used with lowering springs. If you have older struts, it would be best to replace the springs and struts at the same time and get into something like the AGX that can handle the additional stress of lowering. You can see all of our suspension items here:
