the car will just sit lower when parked, and it will be bouncy, and handle poorly, and feel like crap while its movng. if you cant afford to buy some decent suspension parts, then just leave it alone.

Don't cut springs.

Do not cut the springs.

Do NOT cut springs.

Tein S-Techs are only $140 or so, you will cause at least that much in damage and/or aggravation if you chop up your OEM springs.

Don't go the ricer way out and destroy a perfectly fine car because you can't save the money up for something decent. It's pointless and makes you look retarded.

More counter-steer? You mean you want the car to over-steer? Have fun with that. By the sound of your post you need to do some reading/research/real driving before you attempt drifting. It looks all fun and good, but it puts excessive wear and tear (literally) on your car--which requires a hefty budget.

well im ready for the hefty budget and i know its wear and tear but what i meant by counter-steer like is there ways to get more turning radius or places that sell kits to get more turning radius. like the rys millen GTO DRIFT CAR something like that thats all im asking but i wont cut the springs though i was just asking what type of damage would be done to it and the only reason why i dont have the money for springs is becuase im saving my money for a KAAZ 2-way L.S.D..

it will only be bouncy once the shocks go

for a month or two his ride will be better, once the shocks go...

to the original poster

if your have NO MONEY, but WILL have money to buy both new SHOCKS and SPRINGS within the next 3 months or so, and you dont plan on doing any competetive racing, and all you want is a lowered ride to look KOOL go ahead and cut them...

2 things will happen.

1) the new cut spring will not provide the spring rate it was designed to do

2) your shocks will bottom out alot more often than they would under normal conditions.. and i do mean alot more, this will ultimetly destroy them, and make your ride real bouncy.

but yeah, do what you want

by counter steer, i think you mean you want more steering lock...I don't think anyone makes anything for the 240 that will give you more lock... i mean, have you turned the steering wheel all the way in one direction and gone outside of your car to see how much the front wheels can turn? It's quite a bit.

You can get Tein Tie Rods with a 10mm spacer to increase steering angle, if that's what you're looking for.

i was under the impression that cutting springs, provided it is done properly, will increase the spring rate of the spring (one of three determining factors: number of coils, width of spring wire, and the 'mean' diameter of the spring itself). by cutting the spring, you are reducing the amount of active coils, and increasing the spring rate. without replacing your dampers at the same time, you will be forcing them to work with less travel then they were designed to, and at a higher rate. this will wear them out very quickly, especially if they are worn stock dampers to begin with. so i would guess theoretically, if the springs were cut properly and paired with a correct damper, there should be no problems. (though in my opinion $150 or so is worth the peace of mind).

tein has a nice set of tie rods and ends that are supposed to increase lock, they are decently priced as well.

well im not going to cut the springs thanks to all of your advice, but im not some dorky ricer with a 240 who takes a coner at 40 MPH and understeers and calls it a drift. im just in the begining stages of drifting but i can drift i will try to get some video of me on here so you can see. but i just wanted some input and i will look into the tien tie-rod and tie-rod ends. and the reason for the more steering lock is becuase if i kick the rear out really far (which my im known for dont know why but its my style i guess) i always spin out all i want is to be able to control those drifts betterand at higher speeds.
