Ruin the car? No.

Ruin the stock struts? Eventually.... quicker than the stock springs would.

The counter to this is to install good quality aftermarket struts/shocks. None yet exist. By the time you wear out your first set, KYB, Tanabe, and/or Tokico should make a set.

Dealerships will NOT install performance parts for you. While they like $$, they don't want to chance being held liable if something goes wrong. Also, they most certainly will not cover any suspension-related failures once your car is lowered.

If you can't do the install yourself, you would need a shop that specializes either in suspension or performance... they would do the work for you, most likely. The suspension shops would also be able to align the car once the springs are installed.

Edit: as a matter of course, never ask your dealership about performance. Their goal is to keep your car 100% stock and perform as many services necessary to keep your car and you running happy the way it came from the factory.

How difficult is it to replace the springs? I was looking forward to doing it myself.

what should I expect to pay for a realignment?

I'm not familiar with the rear spring setup on the V, never replaced springs on that type of suspension.

The front is standard McPherson struts. You'd need some spring compressors... and an air compressor and pneumatic impact wrench would help GREATLY. With those, probably a couple hours. Without... could take most of the day.

Alignment should be $80-100.

The rear springs are even easier. Jack up the rear end and support with jack stands on the car's chassis. unbolt the shocks and lower rear axle out of the way. Remove old springs and install new ones. Jack rear axle in place and bolt on shocks. Lower car and your done. Shouldn't take more than half an hour in your driveway.

Then I would recommend that you take your V to a shop for the spring install.
