Need some advice here... The previous owner of my car put KYB shocks on my Z. As far as springs I have no idea what they are. I'm looking to drop the ride height to 1-1.5 from stock height. It's my DD so no hard constant track use. I'm putting 17x9 all the way around soon. Should I keep KYB shocks and get springs or get coilovers? Can't spend more than 1k right now and even that would be a stretch. I'm always willing to wait and save up though ;) any tips/advice are greatly appreciated

If you have the money, coils for sure. Powertrix or SPL is what most are going to say go with.

Thanks dank, pretty much made my mind to get coils. Probably powertrix, but what's the key differences with the different styles? I know the are all adjustable so is it weight and strength of coilovers that make the difference between the street set, and say the ultra-lite?

The Powertrix website breaks all the tech details down pretty well.

What do you want them for? If you just want sporty handling and the ability to lower the car, then SS are fine. If you want to make a race machine, the Ultra Lites are the way to go. If you're somewhere in between, Then that's what they made the Road/Track for.

since no one has brought it up yet, if you drop below an inch you will need a camber kit.

I didn't know that. I will look around for those too. Just one more reason to get coilovers, keep ride height up for now later get a camber kit and lower it more :yesnod

Yes and that is camber on all four corners. Recommend Powertrix up front and Powertrix or SPL for the back ones. With FUCA's you will also need adjustable tension rods, Powertrix or SPL for these as well, although for the street SPL is a bit over kill but nothing wrong with that in my book.

There is a bit more to this than I initially thought.... What about traction rods? Worth doing that at the same time too? And toe rods?

The stock toe rods should do just fine. The traction need to be installed with the front upper adjustable camber arms to keep things in check when the alignment is done. The rears you should be fine with just the rear upper adjustable camber arm.
