didn't readily find this in a search---so has anyone had their parcel box lid go 'flat'? did fuel pump on black today, no drama there, but as i'm putting the parcel shelf back in wondering if there is a quick fix.springs? no busted hinges---just won't hold open.

I have a spare parcel box and it wasn't staying open so I pulled it apart this afternoon. There's a gear on either end of the box that engages a coiled up spring. The entire gear assembly is held in place with 2 screws on either end. The two plastic legs that engage the spring are broken off. In the pic I've crudely glued the legs onto one of the gears to show what it should look like. This fix won't last 2 openings of the lid and it's doubtful you can buy the gear without buying the entire parcel box lid. Poor design, sort of like the plastic hinges on the glovebox and the tabs on the center console ashtray.

Very interesting! I had the same thing happen on Q1... not sure on this one - but never investigated it.

Great going guys!

Can anyone get an CNC mill to duplicate them?

Do you guys open/close these alot? I think I have only opened this compartment maybe 4-5 times ever! I store an emergency zenon strobe light kit and a Surefire flashlight with spare lithium cells in there in case I get a flat tire or need to pull off highway shoulder at night for an emergency-thankfully never needed YET!

thanks, Mike--that is very informative.at least on the ashtray you can use a drill blank as a roll pin.no, this was only the second time i opened it. PO had an 8 year old, i suspect he thought it was real cool there in the back seat and.....anyway it's all back together, so that'll be a project for another day. off hand, i'm thinking of something like a photo album threaded post, and just drill thru the gear and then thread the post thru the gear from the backside.

discuss.

i did vacuum the shelf while i had it out, and it looks like new after sucking off the fine dust.

Mike, i'm gonna 'jack my own thread here for a sec....did you switch your avatar to an Atlas? whut up?

You can replace just the lower part of the box, assume with new gears already installed?

I can pull the other numbers for the other colors if you want.

I was thinking along the same line but with a household dimmer switch......taking it apart to remove the center post which would fit nicely in the spring opening.

Only you would notice the change. I decided to show our product rather than the competitor's Delta (sorry), although the Heavy Lift makes our boosters look like pocket rockets. Very impressive.

yes! a dimmer switch. i was thinking there was something metal already pre-slit, but it didn't make it out of the dark recesses to something tangible.good call!now, we just have to figure out the 'bearing journal' end--looks a bit smaller diameter. maybe just drill out the 'bearing' in the plastic case and make it an oversized...

I never even thought about it. I don't know what mine does now I'll have to see. Do we have an engineer here who could start making little parts like this for replacements. After all we're going for 500k on these Qs right?
