I am looking for some new suspension... and while i know a very little bit about coil overs from research, i know far less about spring strut combos.

A) I am looking for moderate lowering... and a stiffer ride from the springs.B) From the struts, I want some adjustability... and i want them to be safe from blowing out with the lower springs.

The end goal is a daily driver that is a bit more autox / track worthy. I am willing to have a stiff ride, I don't commute in the car for hours each day.

Can some of you fine people help me out here? I would really like to see some brand / part recommendations if its not too much trouble.

Also, do i need to pick up an alignment kit for this little project? (camber bolts if i remember right) I wouldn't want a little thing like that to hold me up if i can avoid it.

As far as Spring Strut combo, I always wanted to go Tein S-Tech's with KYB AGX struts.

KYB AGX Struts are what you should be going for, they are pretty much the standard upgrade for everyone. Springs are your choice really, I've been recommened to check out Eibachs, and Toicko's. That's as far as my knowledge goes sorry!

s-techs and agx here. excellent daily ride although if i were to track/autox it i would want something better. there's not really a good compromise to be found as you will end up either wanting more comfort or more stability and stiffness either way you go.

get a dedicated track can and a separate daily.

Yeah, i know the problems with tracking a daily, and that it involves conflicting goals. And at this point i think i can deal with making compromises where they need to be made.

Right now, I have to consider my limited funds... and that my engine needs an overhaul at some point. So I thought Struts / Springs would be a more cost effective way of improving the ride.

It looks like KYB AGX are the standard Strut. Cool.

Is there a place i can look up the spring rates of the S-tech, eibach, and toicko spring sets?

Scroll down to find the spring rates of the springs most commonly used on 240's zerothread/11638 I have KYB AGX's with eibach Sportlines, And i like them alot for the street. I have them set to full stiffness and they aren't bad, but i would definatly recommend coilovers or maybe RSR race springs with Koni Yellow Struts. I heard the AGX's arent stiff enough for the RSR's in the back. but if you are going to get Koni yellows and RSR's, you might as well get some MR Coilovers for about the same price.

As I always inform people when AGXs come up:When I was in your shoes, I actually email KYB USA and asked for more info than I could find on the AGX at any retailer. I was informed that the shocks are designed for standard springs, and anything more than a 10% increase in rate, and 1" dop are outside of the saftey margin they engineer into the shock.

Having learned this, even though dozens if not hundreds of S13/14 owners running AGXs and whatever spring, I decided to take it from the horse's mouth, and not just throw some springs around AGXs and call it day.

I myself chose the Nismo S-Tune combo. It has gotten very cheap recently (like under $650 now I think...when I bought them I was one of the first 10 in the US to get them, and they were JUST shy of $1000), and you get a matched custom valved Nismo-spec KYB damper and Nismo-spec spring. Plus, you also get harder Nismo upper mounts. Not a bad deal for the paltry price.

I have been running them for over 2 years now and I LOVE the setup. You don't even have to do the guesswork of turning the knobs on the AGXs as Nismo and KYB have done the work for you.

What makes you think you'll need an engine overhaul anytime soon??

How many miles do you have??

I would go with Rico and get the Nismo S-Tunes.

i agree with rico completely, most importantly because its cheaper than agx/any spring combo and may outperform them as well.

Its got 163k on the old KA24DE, I can hear the timing chain noises getting progressively louder, compression check a while back showed cyl 3 & 4 were 20-30 lbs lower (but just barely within spec) than cyl 1 & 2 (which were just over spec if i am remembering it right). So right there i am looking at a full timing chain kit, and some piston rings. While I'm at it... why not throw in higher comp pistons and throw in an Altima intake cam i pulled out of a junk yard for fun a while back.

If I'm going to do all that, why not take it to a machine shop, have it stripped down to the block and rebuilt with a fresh set of bearings and all that good stuff??It may not be for another 10-20k on the car... But the cost is out there and I figure i might as well plan ahead for it.

To be honest, I have been looking for a good bit... and have found nothing for the 240sx in the way of Nismo S-Tune strut / spring combos.

I saw some coil overs one place but those were listed at like $1800 and frankly my budget is not that great. If it were, I would spend it on improving my brakes.

Try one of our sponsors Midwayparts. Their price should be very competitive. Could be lowest you can find.

I've seen some at RHDjapan.com for 800 bucks. Don't know about this less than 650 stuff but I am really interested in these S-tunes also. I sent an email to a few places to see if they can get them... hmm oh well.

all the options for you were already listed in the above, but to clarify:

1. tein springs + AGX = i own this combo, nice balance between the spring and strut. awesome DD, & weekend warrior.

2. RSR springs or Ground Contols + Koni yellows= from what i heard, probably the best spring and strut combo that can compete with coilovers. awesome at track events yet very streetable.

3. coilovers= and if you were looking towards coilovers these are probably the only ones around your budget, Ksport, megans, D2.

my own advice is save up and get some QUALITY coilovers, if you get upgraded spring and stuts your probably gonna eventually upgrade to coilovers anyway.
