Hello- In my many miles of walking the last 3 days at the SEMA show in Las Vegas I ran accross a very interesting fellow who makes springs. We talked at great length about our cars (G50 specifically) and he "Hand Makes" springs. He would need a doner car, some time and of course a financial commitmant. Anyway his info is.....Mark HabichtRoad Magnet8905 Kelso DrBaltimore, MD [email protected]://www.roadmagnet.com

When you contact him, let him know that you are with Q45.org and that a member talked to him at the SEMA show.

Hope this helps everyone out

Scott

Are you aware of any JDM brands that currently make them? If you can find one, I can see about bringing over multiple sets. Y33 springs have been going for $300 shipped which is pretty cheap, IMO.

I posted this in the cut coil thread, but will add here as well.

=================

Falk, not that I'm in the market, but for those that are

JIC Magic for Q45 94-96 G50 50FLTA2VIP* ***** 9kg/7kg

*Special Order Only. Confirmation Required.*****Specify front lower bracket bolt diameter. Either 20mm or 22mm sizes.

I find that last part very interesting ... that may be the difference between the lowering mounting point size from 90-93 to 94-96. That would be very helpful to know.

And "Zoom" comes up as a brand when I do some yahoo.jp auction searching.

Thanks Rex, I saw that and forgot to reply. JIC are full on coilovers, and I don't think there are many (any??) on here who will spend $1600 for a complete set up and I know I'm not taking the risk of buying several sets of those! lol. I will look into the Zoom brand though.

Espelir makes them apparently. When I spoke to them about Y33 springs they wanted me to buy 20 sets though, but I will be looking into this.

(part #) ESN-156(application) G50 VH45DE (front lowering in MM) 40~45(rear lowering in MM) 30~35 (front spring rate in KG/MM) 4.6(rear spring rate in KG/MM) 4.2

My guess is they'll be in the same price range as the Y33 Tein's; ~$300

He was talking about $200.00 to $300.00 a set depending on how much R and D needs to be done. It may be cheaper to just copy the Eibachs.....If he can do that, I may be interested in a pair of those to try.

I looked at soooo many booths but didn't come accross anybody else who could or was willing to help us.

I have one set of the CC springs that I'm keeping in reserve. I could send those for comparison with the eibach if it would help the cause. I don't know that you'll find the demand really there though. Lots of people talk, but it took me 3 months to get commitment for 13 sets of springs, and that was with multiple posts here indicating that I had (at the time) a couple extras. Everybody wants them, if somebody walked into their garage and handed them a set. Very few actually want to spend the money.

its not that people dont want to spend the money as much as they are not willing to put up with the drawbacks of lowering springs like the camber issues,accelerated wear on shocks,and especially the decreased ride quality on poorly maintained roads{ at least here in baltimore}

Good point. Still, my point is the same...it's gonna be tough to actually find enough people to make it worth while for a spring maker, at any kind of reasonable cost.

Just as a suggestion, here are a couple others I would check if I were really in the market. I have no experience with them, but they do custom work, and all have automotive experience (as opposed to someplace that makes springs for garage doors). The first one has a nice web site where you can actually put in all your required info and request a quote.

Pretty cheap for customs. 5 sets and the price is probably around $350. Ten it may be $300.

Im kinda getting sick of all of this... I should just grab one of my extra springs, model it in Pro/Engineer (making a spring like this shouldnt take too long) and take it to someone to recreate it...

Exactly! What I want is OEM ride height with ~20% stiffer spring rates.

Even Q45tech has said his Eibachs are history in the future.

My car has to work in the real world with real world road irregualrities.

Oem front 146 x 20%^= ~175Oem rear 123 x 20%^= ~148

I thought the sole purpose of lowering springs was to lower for looks.

Not sure a 20% stiffer than oem spring would accomplish much as total would be halved by the front bar.

If oem setup allowed 3" body roll the stiffer setup would allow 10% less 2.7" under max G's.

As to rear just a tiny but more than 1/2 the effect of adding a rear 20mm sway bar.

The money [cost + installation + shock wear] might be better spent in designing a 22mm solid or 22.5mm hollow rear sway bar .......something that could provide a 60-70 lb/in as attached rear stiffness increase.

The 22 mm rear bar would allow you to skip the front 29>28 mm reduction getting more and saving more work effort and expense.

If you don't want to lower.................sway bars stress shock life less than springs.

I just thought that the Tokico blues would not handle much more than a 20% increase for very long. Custom shock absorber adaptations would really up the cost.
