I went ahead and purchased all new OEM struts and shocks and suggested accessories (i.e boots, mounts, etc) for my 2004 M45. I took the car to a local mechanic to have him install everything. I have Tein S springs on my car. Afer the install of the new struts and shocks, the car silky smooth on the road, but the only problem is that the front driver side spring rattles when I drive on an uneven surface going less than 5mph. On the freeway, there is no noise, only when I am driving slowly. I have checked to make sure that the spring is seated properly on the mount. I have not taken it back to the mechanic, to check out the noise, but has anyone else ever had this issue?

Could it be a defective strut (albeit new)? This is a SWAG, of course.

The rebound on the strut seems fine, it is just the rattle at low speed. Do you know how I can check to see if it is defective?

describe the rattle, at what speeds does it start, under throttle or cruise, can you get a sound clip? Jacked up the front and turned bias to check for slippage? any excessive bounce? vibration accompany rattle? Are you sure its the spring and not the strut? Torqued wheels and alignment? getting any toe or camber wear? be as detailed, could be a gazillion things, maybe could narrow it down...

first guess is strut hat, or spring slippage...
