Yeah, i've got a question, kinda stupid and I DID SEARCH

but since i'm a lil dense, i didnt get a full understanding...

when installing new springs, you only need a spring compressor for the removal of the spring from the strut...

so since i'm installing some AGX's and Tein S-tech springs TOGETHER, i don't need one? and i can jsut take hte stock OEM springs/struts off as one piece on each of the 4 corners w/o a spring compressor?

someone enlighten me or maybe send me to a how-to page pleeeeasseee

the springs go over the struts. since you will be replacing both you dont need to take the stock springs off the stock struts. However since you need to put the tein springs on the AGX shocks you will need a compressor

ok thanks, that's what i was wondering...

i wasnt sure if i had to use a compressor to put the springs ON the struts...

i was pretty sure i could remove the OEM spring/strut assembly off the car as once piece...i've never worked with suspension before so i didn't know.

also, is there a way around using a compressor for putting the spring/struts ON? or do i have to take them to a shop?

you can remove the struts/springs as one piece. And you can sometimes get the springs on without a compressor if they are really short springs. Like eibach sportlines or something. Just have someone compress them with their hands and put the top cap on and put the nut on. Even on really short springs though you usually need a compressor. You can get them for $50 dollars though so if you have facilities and some tools do it yourself.

Spring compressors are under $10 and make your life MUCH easier. I suggest investing in a pair...

Harbor Freight baby!

Take your pick. The really cheap $10 pair are "throw-away" as far as I'm concerned. I used them to do all 4 struts on my car, and by then they were actually bent, so I threw them away. I then bought the floor model to do other jobs. VERY nice, no sweat, quick as hell. If you're going to do all 4 struts more than once in your life on any car, go with hydraulic.

If the springs are already on the shocks, you do not need a compressor. Just swap OEM assembly with aftermarket assembly. Bolts right in. If your springs and shocks come separately, then use a spring compressor. Better safe than sorry...

Dunno if you guys have AutoZone in VA, but they rent coil spring compressors out for free. Just leave a deposit.

Also, i recommend using a torque wrench. If you can borrow one for free, all the more reason to get it. But if using one comes with a price, and you intend on working on your car in the future, I highly suggest purchasing one.

craftsman MacPhereson strut spring compressors $40 at sears, minus 10% for the craftsman club sale, that makes it approximately $40 with tax. :)

I did KYB AGX with TEIN S Tech about 4 weeks ago. I used a spring compressor to remove the pillow mounts of the old shocks (couldnt afford new ones at the time :( ) But I didnt use a compressor on the Tein springs. They were short enough for me to slide them over the shock and put the pillow mount on with out compressing them. But you will definately need the compressors if you plan on removing anything off the old shock/spring assembly.

You can also rent spring compressors from your local Autozone (if you have one) for 40 bucks. You get the 40 bucks back when you bring the compressor back.

yup, if you're using your old upper mounts, you will need a compressorhttp://www.speczero.com/tech_s13susp.php
