2000 Infiniti I-30

The coil spring (shown in the attached photo - dime for scale) suddenly appeared on our driver's floormat.

Do you recognize this spring?

I don't see how it could have fallen off any part of the under-dash, the steering column, the power seat, or the driver's door. But I don't see how it could have come from anything else except the car, either.

Thanks,

Dani

Does the tilt wheel and hood release work?

Looks like it *could* be from one of those...

Welcome aboard!

Thanks fellows - that was fast!

Everything works well, so we're good to go.

I notice that, when unlatched, the tilt steering settles down under its own weight to its lowest point of travel. I have to lift it up and hold it in place while closing the latch if I want to set it any higher.

The car was in the the shop recently for its 48-month "big service", and for replacement of an ignition coil assembly, but the spring doesn't look like a by-product of that type of service work either.

Thanks again for your prompt help.

Dani

I'd bet it's for the tilt wheel - Not a critical component.

Of course, it could have stuck to your shoe and found its way into the footwell that way, too...

Mystery solved....

The coil spring is part of the front V-brake assembly from my son's BMX bike. He removed his front brake (and left the parts in a pile on the garage floor) so he could do bar spins.

Somehow we managed to catch the spring on a shoe and transfer it into the I-30.

Should you remove this discussion string, since it is a `red herring'?

Cheers,

Dani

No appropriate discussion is a "Red Herring". Welcome to NICO.

When adjusting the steering wheel (tilt lever), it is normal for it to just flop down. It's that way on my 2k2 Maxi and every other 5th-gen+ Maxi I have driven (same as I30-I35).
