sigh. i was talking to my friend about my newly bought tein s-tech springs and getting them in my car asap. then he brought up the subject on my shocks and strut and that it might blow! is anyone riding lowering springs on stock shocks and struts and etc. are they causing anyone problems? how bad is the ride if they do blow? is there any other options besides buying the kyb's and stuff like that. cause i just dont have that kind of cash right now. any help i can get would be greatly appreciated!

I would for sure not put back the current stock shocks/dampers unless you have less than 50k on the car. I know some people have done it, you would want to get the SR Specials if you could, but they are alot of cash for sure...but even from Joe at Scotsdale you're looking at clost to 500 for a set of stock replacements, so the close to 700 doesn't seem so bad considering how much better the KYB SR's are than ANY shocks I have ever experienced.

That said, i think given the amount of labor that it takes to install the springs, worst case score some fresh stockers.

With spring mounts, more like about $225.

I have s-techs on stock shocks/struts, but they are only 20k old. Its a tad bouncy on really pronounced dips and bumps, but doesn't warrant replacement in my mind.

The Tokico Blues are 10-20% stiffer than the oem Tokico Blacks just like every aftermarket shock designed as a oem replacement. This is done so that the new blue buyer really feels the difference initially. Generally some where around 10 k-25k the blues have worn to the point where they feel like brand new oem Blacks.

The Blues seem to stiffen with temperature [cold] a tiny bit more than oem blacks and have more control in extreme hot conditions.

If you look at FSM you will see that the oem shock stiffness specification varies by 35% front and 50% rear in rebound..............this gives you some idea to the acceptable variances for warranty purposes. New to worn aging

Like I replied on your other thread about the installation of the springs, the stock front inserts wouldn't last very long on the lower springs even if they were brand new. Plus the stock front inserts are too soft for the lower springs anyway. The rear stock struts seemed fine when paired with the lower springs, maybe because I had the Touring model struts. The ride was bouncy in the front and was fine in the rear.

Tokico doesn't make inserts and struts for the Y33. There are only 2 options: KYB SR Special and stock (also made by KYB). Like others said, the difference in cost is about $200 ($500 vs $700) but when you take into account other associated costs (approx. $300 installation, $200 misc. parts like spring rubber insulators and struts covers) then that would be $1000 vs $1200. $200 is only a small portion of $1200 so I would rather make it right and get the KYB SR Special.

If you really must have the lower springs on then you could do like what I did. I installed the Tein's on while waiting for the SR Special. I driven on the bad front inserts for almost a year and I am still alive. Just be careful and slow down when drive over speed bumps. Also don't drive too fast around corners.

I also drove on the Teins with stock, old shocks and struts. The ride wasn't bad, but was definitely harsh on big bumps and dips like Ryan (pudula) said above. I went for about 7 months or so on them before I could get ahold of the KYB SR Specials.

I am 80% of the way towards getting a lot of the SR Specials, just finishing working out the logistics. I've got the palette on a container lined up and I've got my freight forwarder in Japan lined up. I just need to start getting the stuff. I am going to be starting to bring a palette at a time of stuff, planning on doing it like this: 1 set of used JDM wheels, 2-4 sets of the KYB SR's and other miscellaneous items, including testing out Espelir springs.

Jason, if I were you, and you and your buddies want to give it a shot, buy the rubber items from Joe at Everythinginfiniti.com and just do it. You'll need strut mounts, dust boots/bump stops, strut bearings, I think that's it, and that's only like $100. One of my other buddies, Bryan (you may have seen his white Q w/ Cima badging and Amistad wheels) has been riding on his Teins w/ stock (blown) struts / shocks for 2 years, but he does really want some of the SR Specials too.
