Since I'm thinking of lowering the car myself I was looking for videos and came across cutting springs. I always heard of it and recommendations against it, but what makes this crazy is the guy does it without removing the suspension. Just thought I'd share.

Spring cutting is definitely a bad thing. If you need to lower the car, get springs designed to ride lower. Using cut springs will just drop you without changing the spring rate, which means you be much more likely to bottom out the suspension. Using springs designed for going lower will give you a stiffer rate so that more force is needed to compress the springs, this will save you from bottoming out and breaking your suspension. Cutting the springs will also make them unable to cushion in a uniform manner against the parch, since the bottom support has been cut off. Cutting the springs on the car is nuts too.

Definitely don't cut springs. If you want to try before you buy get yourself spring clamps. Its a kit that can boost springs or compress a few coils. That's a bit safer.

Cutting springs not only puts you at risk of bottoming out but the cut spring does not sit properly on the strut seat and if you go over a large enough bump it could shift it over so its rubbing the control arm. It would also make lots of clunk noises.

Since we're on the topic of springs here always look for progressive rate springs. They feel naturally better than linear.
